A young man in his early 30s, living with his family in Ingersoll is seeking a support worker for about 20-25 hours/week - daytime and early evening hours on weekdays, as well as some weekend hours
This young man is intuitive, a good listener and an accomplished artist. He needs to have a structured routine so he is busy, content and knows what to expect. He enjoys spending time in the community - going for long walks, working out at the gym, eating in restaurants, playing video games, mini golf and being around peers. He is a valued member of his family and community.
This individual has a developmental disability, with a diagnosis of autism. He is physically active and mobile. He has limited verbal skills, speaking in short phrases or single words, but understands what is being said or asked. He communicates using various supportive technology such as an iPad, the Proloquo2Go app and a wearable supportive device.
This family-directed job requires the ability to support this young man with recreational, vocational and other activities of daily living such as meals and hygiene with consistent respect to his wishes, interests and strengths.
The successful candidate will be an individual who can establish a good relationship and treat the individual respectfully at all times. A minimum of 3 years working experience in the Human Services field; Intellectual Challenges, Autism and/or Mental Health and Wellness. This position also requires the candidate to have strong communication skills including the ability to use various supportive technology, as described above.
A minimum of 3 years experience working with individuals with autism is required.
The ability to work within a team, which includes family and other professionals, is essential.
A valid driver’s license and a trustworthy vehicle with suitable insurance is required.
Three references, a Criminal Reference Check, valid First Aid/CPR certification and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI) certification are all required.
