Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Construction Inspector to ensure the quality, safety, and compliance of construction projects. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in monitoring construction activities, inspecting materials and workmanship, and verifying adherence to project specifications and regulations. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to the successful completion of infrastructure and building projects through diligent oversight and quality control.
Responsibilities
- Conduct inspection of highway construction contracts in accordance with the MTO Construction Administration Inspection Task Manual (CAIS).
- Maintain detailed daily diaries documenting the contractor’s work, contract progress, and inspection milestones, ensuring all inspection tasks are completed and recorded promptly and accurately.
- Ensure the contractor adheres to all contract requirements as directed by the Contract Administrator, including legal, environmental, construction standards, and protection of wildlife.
- Conduct sampling of materials for quality assurance purposes.
- Conduct on-site inspections of construction activities to verify compliance with plans, specifications, and safety standards.
- Collect and document data related to construction progress, materials used, and workmanship quality.
- Review blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to understand project requirements and ensure proper implementation.
- Perform analysis of inspection data to identify potential issues or deviations from project standards.
- Verify that approved construction materials are used and acquired from approved sources, and maintain accurate records of such materials.
- Ensure the contractor applies the Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHMIS, the Environmental Protection Act, the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act, and Waste Management regulations consistently with the contract.
Experience
- Road Construction Junior Inspector (RCJI) designation from OACETT.
- Knowledge of design standards, specifications, and materials associated with construction, as well as applicable laws and regulations including environmental and occupational health and safety requirements and their application in construction contracts.
- Computer literacy with Microsoft Office applications.
Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel to construction sites.
Pay: $25.00-$30.00 per hour
