Job Description: Service Technician
You are a technician with a solid understanding of electrical and automation design as well as the mechanical systems they are built to control. Troubleshooting machine failures or system issues are challenges that drive you while maintaining the ability to communicate clearly even under stressful situations. Collaborating with coworkers, team members, and third-party associates are seen as opportunities to strive towards a solution for the root cause of failures within a system. Successful applicants will have demonstrated a knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and automation systems with an ability to troubleshoot issues and succinctly communicate solutions to clients over the phone, through email, or in person.
Location: Mississauga, Ontario, Canada – near Hwy #401 and Dixie Road

Roles and Responsibilities:
- Provide customers with phone support for assistance in troubleshooting challenges that clients may be facing whether related to mechanical, electrical, or automation areas
- Collaborate with Mechanical and Electrical Engineering teams and share information across the organization
- Read blueprints, diagrams, manuals, and schematics to troubleshoot equipment
- Prepare reports or analysis of product failure trends and service issues
- Provide support by examining complaints, identifying solutions, suggesting improved methods and techniques, as well as recommending system & safety improvements
- Make improvement recommendations that can reduce cost, decrease downtime, and enhance safety.
- Establish and maintain good relationships with customers and vendors
- Follow up with clients upon completion of any service call or visits to ensure that all issues have been resolved
- Prepare training material to train both site operators and dealer service teams.
- Coordinate the submission of work reports and timesheets from service site visits to Aftermarket representative so that the appropriate sales orders can be processed
- This position is primarily an in-office position but travel to client sites for service and commissioning may be required on an infrequent basis
- Note that most of the travel is within Canada/US but there are occasions where international travel may be required in locations like Australia, Chile, Colombia, Greenland, Slovenia, Mozambique, Bahamas.
- When required, travel to a client site to perform Troubleshooting assistance for any issues they may be experiencing, Oversee assembly and installation of Thor Global equipment, Start up commissioning, and or Training for site operators or dealer service teams.
This position will require an extended on-call availability up to 8pm through the week
- Provide phone support to clients and dealers in other time zones
- Record and follow up with service issues as necessary
- Note call volume during this period is very rare (3 occurrences/ month)
- Compensation for this portion of employment is separate from your regular salary and will be paid at an on-call rate with an additional rate should a call come in
Qualification and Experience:
- MUST have a Strong Electro-Mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience
- MUST have strong communication, interpersonal, and technical writing skills
- MUST be familiar with AutoCAD (2018 and up)
- 5 years of experience in a field related to heavy duty machinery or electrical/automation design preferred
- Familiarity with PLC programming (Allen-Bradley/Schnieder)
- Experience with ladder logic
- Familiarity with HMI programming software (Vijeo/EcoStruxure) is an asset
- Experience with building, laying out, and wiring of an electrical panel is an asset
- Familiarity with the Canadian Electrical Code
- Strong ability to work in a team environment or autonomously as needed
- Degree or diploma in an electrical, electro-mechanical, or automation discipline is preferred
Additional Required Competencies:
- Valid drivers licence
- Familiarity with using heavy equipment (forklift, telehandler, scissor lift, genie boom etc.) is an asset but not mandatory as you will receive training as necessary
- A current valid passport for occasional travel to client site. This is primarily in Canada/US but may also include other areas of the world where we sell machines
