Job Description
- Develop constructive relationships with youth in the neighbourhoods served and refer them to appropriate services
- To provide programming in the following neighbourhoods: Sandwhich, Drouillard, Forest Glade, Glengarry and University
- Break down language, cultural, and settlement barriers to ensure that youth and their families are able to access services and supports
- Facilitate safe, supportive and educational groups
- Community capacity building
- Develop and maintain collaborative, working relationships with community partners and service providers who are experts on specific populations
- Review and update neighbourhood mapping annually
- Identify and engage appropriate youth participants and refer them to programs or services they require
- Develop linkages with community partners and update them on a regular basis to update on new initiatives
- To provide programming and support to youth, including dress for success, foodbank, hygiene packages, employment training, laundry and life skills group(s)
- To provide statistical information to the Program Manager for the neighbourhoods being serviced
Qualifications:
- A certificate or degree in social service sector is required
- Minimum three (3) years demonstrated experience working with youth ages 12 - 21
- Demonstrated skills, knowledge, experience and working relationships with agencies who provide services specific to priority populations
- Demonstrated awareness of global and cultural issues
- Bilingualism or multilingualism is considered an asset
- The ability to form positive relationships and an understanding of the particular problems of hard-to-reach youth is necessary
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and negotiate effectively with a multi-disciplinary team of service providers is an asset
- Demonstrated ability to manage conflict in a professional manner with and/or between others, restoring calm while maintining personal credibility and integrity
- Effective communication through the use of recognized tools and techniques, including: active listening, verbal/non-verbal cues, empathy, prepared clear messaging, controlled and balanced responses etc.
- General understanding and working knowledge of Microsoft Office Software is required.
- Police Record Clearance and Vulnerable Sector Screening is required. NVCI, CPR. First Aid certificate, immunization record, medical clearance, a valid Ontario Class "G" driver's license and access to a vehicle is required prior to working directly with clients. Will be expected to work irregular hours as required by client or program needs, which include weekends and evenings
