Title: Parenting Program Facilitator
Position Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and culturally grounded Parenting Program Facilitator to lead parenting programs that strengthen families by empowering and uplifting both fathers and mothers. The facilitator will deliver structured curriculum such as Fatherhood Is Sacred®, Motherhood Is Sacred®, or comparable parenting programs rooted in Indigenous cultural values and community wellness.
This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about family support, Indigenous community-based teachings, and creating safe, respectful spaces for growth and connection. This is a contract position, which will run from October 6th – December 11th 2026, then break and run again from January 12th – March 19th. The ideal candidate is available weekday evenings Tuesdays and Wednesdays between 4:00-8:00pm, and available on Saturdays for full days while the program is running.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate structured parenting programs such as Fatherhood Is Sacred and Motherhood Is Sacred, or similar models, in accordance with the curriculum guidelines.
- Create a welcoming, respectful, and supportive environment for participants.
- Foster meaningful dialogue and connection among participants while maintaining program integrity.
- Help parents explore and strengthen their roles through culturally grounded principles, self-reflection, and group learning.
- Promote values such as responsibility, nurturing, identity, and resilience.
- Maintain accurate attendance records, participant feedback, and facilitator notes.
- Provide encouragement, resources, and referrals to support family wellness as needed.
- Uphold confidentiality, respect, and professionalism at all times.
- Use cultural traditional practices that focus on the mind, emotion, body and spirit and recognize family strengths and assets.
Qualifications:
- Certification or formal training in Fatherhood Is Sacred, Motherhood Is Sacred, or a similar evidence-informed parenting program. (Course training and certification can be provided by Spirit of the Children Society)
- Experience working with families, parents, or community groups in a facilitative or supportive role.
- Strong understanding of cultural values and family systems, preferably with experience working in Indigenous or diverse communities.
- Confident in leading group discussions and promoting engagement.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and group facilitation skills.
- Reliable, organized, and committed to program delivery and participant success.
- First Aid Certificate (currently valid) or willingness to obtain before required start date
- A clear criminal record check, including vulnerable sector screening.
- Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task in a dynamic working environment; self-motivated personality; ability to work independently and as a team player.
- Excellent understanding and knowledge of Aboriginal culture, traditions and socio-economic issues affecting urban Aboriginal families.
- Knowledge and experience of group process and facilitation techniques.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills, supportive counseling, and advocacy skills.
- Well organized, good time and general management skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain a positive, professional, non-judgmental and confidential attitude.
- Ability to reflect on and improve professional practice.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, and Outlook.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practice, intergenerational healing, or culturally safe family support work.
- Previous experience facilitating programs focused on parenting, fatherhood, motherhood, or family empowerment.
- Knowledge of the Child, Family and Community Service Act is an asset
- Maintain an appropriate record and information system. Prepare reports and provide accurate data when needed. Ensure that accurate program and client records are maintained and that confidentiality is a priority. Ensure that all pertinent requirements and documentation are complete and up to date.
