Sushi Island is a Japanese restaurant located on Broad St. Bedford, Halifax NS, offering sushi, sashimi, tempura, ramen, teppanyaki, and other popular Japanese dishes. We are currently seeking Cooks and Kitchen Helpers to join our team.
The starting wage is $16.75 per hour, plus tips. Wages for cooks may be increased based on skills and work performance. Applicants must have a valid SIN number. Previous restaurant experience is considered an asset but is not required.
Responsibilities
Kitchen Cooks
- Prepare ingredients for Asian-style dishes, including cutting fish and meat, slicing vegetables, and preparing rice and other staples;
- Cook a variety of Asian dishes such as tempura, ramen, fried rice, fried noodles, and bento, ensuring high standards of quality, taste, and presentation;
- Maintain inventory and keep accurate records of food, supplies, and kitchen equipment;
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations and maintain strict hygiene standards in the kitchen;
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with other kitchen staff to ensure efficient kitchen operations;
Kitchen Helpers
- Operate dishwashers to wash dishes
- Sanitize and wash pots, pans and other items by hand
- Bring clean dishes and kitchenware in storage area
- Clean, peel, slice, and cut foodstuffs
- Portion and wrap foods
- Clean and sanitize kitchen including work surfaces, cupboards, storage areas, appliances and equipment
- Sweep and mop kitchen floor
- Remove kitchen garbage and trash
Skills
- Knowledge of food safety standards, sanitation practices, and proper food handling techniques
- Ability to manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Previous restaurant or food service experience preferred, but not necessarily, we will provide training.
- Excellent communication skills for serving guests and collaborating with team members
