We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Crane Technician to join our team in St. Catharines, Ontario. Reporting to the Plant Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and installing overhead cranes, hoists, and material handling equipment for our manufacturing operations.
This role is ideal for a mechanically and electrically inclined individual who enjoys problem-solving, working with industrial equipment, and ensuring critical lifting systems operate safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
Inspection & Compliance
- Conduct inspections of overhead cranes, hoists, and lifting devices to ensure compliance with applicable safety standards and regulations.
- Perform routine safety audits and identify potential equipment deficiencies.
- Maintain inspection reports and service documentation.
- Ensure all equipment meets operational and legislative requirements.
Maintenance & Repair
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and control system issues on cranes and hoists.
- Perform preventive and predictive maintenance to maximize equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
- Repair and replace components including motors, brakes, controls, limit switches, wire ropes, chains, gearboxes, and electrical systems.
- Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and emergency repair requests.
- Assist with equipment upgrades, modifications, and modernization projects.
Installation & Commissioning
- Support the installation and commissioning of new cranes, hoists, and material handling systems.
- Read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and technical drawings.
- Conduct operational testing and verification following repairs and installations.
- Ensure all work is completed according to manufacturer specifications and company standards.
Customer Service & Documentation
- Serve as a technical resource for internal departments and customers.
- Communicate maintenance findings and recommendations clearly and professionally.
- Maintain accurate service records, work orders, inspection reports, and maintenance logs.
- Assist with inventory management of parts and maintenance supplies.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Certified Crane & Hoist Technician, Industrial Electrician (442A/309A), Industrial Mechanic (Millwright 433A), or equivalent trade qualification preferred.
- Previous experience servicing overhead cranes, hoists, or material handling equipment.
- Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
- Experience troubleshooting electrical systems up to 600V.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and technical manuals.
- Familiarity with applicable crane safety standards and regulations.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
