Position Overview
The Supervisor is responsible for providing operational leadership within one of EDSI's residential programs. This role combines hands-on support with leadership responsibilities to ensure the residence operates safely, effectively, and in accordance with organizational policies, licensing requirements, Ministry standards, and best practices.
Reporting to the House Manager and working under the direction of the Manager of Programs & Services, the House Supervisor provides leadership to the House Lead and Direct Support Professionals while overseeing staffing, documentation, quality assurance, and daily operations. Although responsible for leading the day-to-day operation of the residence, the House Supervisor remains accountable to senior leadership for ensuring organizational priorities, regulatory expectations, and high standards of care are consistently achieved.
Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Staff Development
- Provide day-to-day leadership, supervision, and support to House Leads and Direct Support Professionals.
- Foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Coach, mentor, and develop employees through ongoing feedback, guidance, and performance management.
- Support onboarding, orientation, and continued staff development.
- Address performance concerns through coaching and progressive discipline in collaboration with management.
- Promote a positive workplace culture that supports employee engagement and high-quality service delivery.
Residential Operations
- Oversee the daily operation of the residence to ensure a safe, structured, welcoming, and therapeutic home environment.
- Coordinate staffing, scheduling, appointments, transportation, recreation, community participation, and daily programming.
- Monitor household operations, maintenance concerns, and overall program quality.
- Assist with residential budgeting and responsible stewardship of household resources.
- Respond effectively to operational issues, emergencies, and changing priorities.
Youth Care & Therapeutic Support
- Maintain an active leadership presence within the residence by working alongside staff, providing direct support when required, and modelling best practices in residential care.
- Promote trauma-informed, relationship-based approaches that foster safety, trust, consistency, and positive outcomes.
- Primarily support youth in achieving goals related to education, independence, emotional well-being, life skills, community participation, and successful transitions while applying the same person-centred principles within adult residential programs when applicable.
- Ensure Plans of Care (PoCs), Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs), Behaviour Intervention Plans (BIPs), safety plans, protocols, and risk management strategies are consistently implemented and regularly reviewed.
- Promote youth rights, dignity, privacy, cultural identity, inclusion, and meaningful participation in decisions affecting their care. Within adult programs, promote individual rights, choice, independence, and self-determination using the same person-centred approach.
- Foster positive relationships with families, guardians, placement agencies, schools, clinicians, community partners, and other members of each individual's support network.
- Support a therapeutic home environment that encourages stability, healthy relationships, emotional growth, and meaningful opportunities for every individual to succeed.
Documentation, Compliance & Quality
- Ensure documentation is accurate, objective, complete, and submitted within required timelines.
- Review Medication Administration Records (MARs), daily logs, behaviour tracking, incident reports, Serious Occurrence Reports (SORs), and related documentation to ensure quality and compliance.
- Ensure staff complete required documentation and follow established plans, protocols, and safety procedures.
- Maintain compliance with EDSI policies, licensing requirements, Ministry expectations, Quality Assurance Measures (QAM), and applicable legislation.
- Ensure the residence remains organized, audit-ready, and prepared for announced and unannounced inspections.
- Identify opportunities to improve program quality and implement corrective actions where needed.
Collaboration & Program Leadership
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with families, guardians, placement agencies, schools, clinicians, community partners, and internal leadership.
- Coordinate and participate in case conferences, admissions, transitions, multidisciplinary meetings, and service planning.
- Oversee the implementation and ongoing review of Plans of Care (PoCs), Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs), Behaviour Intervention Plans (BIPs), protocols, and other individualized supports.
- Communicate professionally while promoting collaboration, problem solving, and positive outcomes across the interdisciplinary team.
Qualifications
We're looking for someone who demonstrates:
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience within residential services, developmental services, child and youth care, social services, or a related field (1-3 years preferred).
- Experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, autism, complex behavioural needs, dual diagnoses, mental health challenges, or other complex support needs.
- Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to coach, mentor, and hold staff accountable while fostering a respectful and supportive workplace.
- Excellent documentation, time-management, and organizational abilities.
- The ability to remain calm, adaptable, and effective in dynamic residential environments.
- A commitment to person-centred, trauma-informed, evidence-informed practice and continuous quality improvement.
Required Qualifications
- Valid CPR & First Aid Certification.
- Valid SMG Certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Valid Class G Driver's Licence.
- Reliable vehicle with a minimum of $2 million liability insurance.
- Current Driver's Abstract.
- Current Vulnerable Sector Police Check.
- Legally eligible to work in Canada.
