Our client is a multidisciplinary engineering consultancy supporting industrial projects across Western Canada. They are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join their Burnaby office and play a key role in delivering electrical engineering solutions for mining, LNG, industrial processing, utilities, and energy projects.
This position offers the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects ranging from brownfield facility upgrades and sustaining capital programs to major greenfield developments. The successful candidate will remain hands-on technically while working closely with clients, project managers, and multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout all phases of project delivery.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in industrial power distribution systems and enjoy working in a collaborative consulting environment where they can contribute to projects from concept through commissioning.
- Lead electrical engineering scopes on multidisciplinary industrial projects
- Design and develop low and medium voltage power distribution systems
- Perform electrical engineering calculations including load flow, short circuit, voltage drop, and equipment sizing studies
- Prepare and review single-line diagrams, electrical layouts, equipment specifications, and technical reports
- Perform cable sizing, cable routing, and power distribution design activities
- Develop specifications and datasheets for switchgear, MCCs, transformers, VFDs, motors, and associated electrical equipment
- Support project execution from conceptual studies and FEED through detailed design and construction support
- Coordinate electrical engineering deliverables with mechanical, process, piping, civil, structural, and instrumentation disciplines
- Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs, and constructability reviews
- Support procurement activities including technical bid evaluations and vendor document reviews
- Provide field support during construction, commissioning, and start-up activities
- Participate in client meetings and maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
- P.Eng. designation in British Columbia or eligibility for immediate registration
- 10+ years of consulting engineering experience
- Strong experience with industrial power distribution systems
- Experience with: Cable sizing and cable schedules, Low and medium voltage power distribution, MCCs and switchgear, Transformers, Motor control systems, Power system equipment specification and selection, Industrial facility electrical design
- Experience supporting projects within: Mining, Oil & Gas, or other heavy Industrial Facilities
- Experience supporting projects through studies, detailed design, procurement, construction support, and commissioning
- Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with clients
- Ability to work independently while managing project responsibilities
- Power system studies using ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, or similar software
- Arc flash and protection coordination studies
- Hazardous area classification experience
- Brownfield facility modifications and upgrades
- Discipline lead or project management experience
- Experience working directly with owner/operator clients
