Overview
We are seeking a dedicated HSSE Advisor to join our team in the La Crete/ High Level area. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with health, safety, environmental and transportation regulations while promoting a culture of safety within the organization.
Job Requirements
- Enrolled in or working toward NCSO certification is an asset.
- CSTS/RSTS/WHMIS certification and Standard First Aid/CPR.
- Familiarity with COR or other industry safety programs is an asset.
- Previous experience (or co-op/student experience) in HSSE or safety administration is preferred but not mandatory.
- Exposure to field operations, construction, transportation, manufacturing or industrial environments is an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and basic safety software or record-keeping platforms
- Strong documentation, reporting, and organizational skills.
- Valid driver’s license as field travel is required.
- Ability to work in both office and field settings.
- Reliable, proactive, and detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
HSSE Responsibilities
- Assist in the development, review, and tracking of Safe Work Practices (SWPs) and Safe Job Procedures (SJPs).
- Support incident reporting, investigations, and follow-up on corrective actions.
- Conduct site inspections and audits, identifying hazards and unsafe practices.
- Maintain safety documentation, records, and compliance reports.
- Track training completion and certifications for employees.
- Support WCB claims management and Return-to-Work (RTW) processes.
- Participate in toolbox talks and safety meetings as needed.
- Assist with the HR team with orientation, and employee documentation.
- Maintain confidential HR and safety records.
- Support supervisor accountability and documentation compliance.
- Coordinate scheduling and communication for safety related training sessions.
General Responsibilities
- Provide administrative and field support to the HSSE Manager.
- Assist in compiling safety metrics, trend analysis, and reporting.
- Communicate effectively with both frontline workers and management.
- Maintain professionalism, discretion, and attention to detail in all tasks.
Technical & Knowledge Skills
- Basic understanding of occupational health and safety legislation, regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Familiarity with WCB claims processes and Return-to-Work procedures.
- Knowledge of hazard identification, risk assessment, and incident investigation principles.
- Ability to assist with Safe Work Practices (SWPs), Safe Job Procedures (SJPs), and Job Hazard Assessments (JHAs).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and safety documentation systems.
- Strong record-keeping, data entry, and document management skills.
Administrative & Organizational Skills
- Detail-oriented with high accuracy in documentation and reporting.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally.
- Capable of tracking training, compliance, and corrective action follow-ups.
Interpersonal & Communication Skills
- Effective verbal and written communication with both frontline staff and management.
- Team-oriented with a willingness to support supervisors and HSSE leadership.
- Ability to provide clear guidance and participate in safety discussions or training sessions.
