Centerfire is looking for a Lead QA/QC Inspector to join our BC operations based out of Kelowna. The Lead QA/QC Inspector will be responsible for overseeing the regional quality program and reporting to the Quality Manager. They will be required to perform quality checks and inspections and assist the project team with accurate, timely quality and technical support for the various regional projects. The Lead QA/QC Inspector is an integral part of the project teams, serving as the go-to for all technical aspects; providing in-field support and inspections; managing quality-related subcontractors; ensuring document control and management; and being responsible for all quality and commissioning functions on their assigned projects.
The work schedule for this position will be discussed with the successful applicant upon hire.
Roles and Responsibilities
· Perform inspections and quality checks in the field, regardless of weather, on upcoming, ongoing, and completed work.
· Ensure that all QA/QC and commissioning activities are understood and implemented according to company, client, regional, MMCD, and regulatory standards.
· Manage all technical information pertinent to the projects, maintaining a working knowledge of ongoing and upcoming project requirements, design, and standards.
· Complete quality surveillance reports, RFIs, document control, manage technical aspects of projects and required documentation, perform progressive turnover, and manage all quality documentation at a project level under the direction of the Quality Manager and Site Manager/PM.
· Educate and provide recommendations to the project team about project quality and technical requirements, and provide improvement initiatives to the Quality Manager and project team.
· Continuously monitor construction activities for deviations from specification and ensure deviations are immediately brought to the attention of the construction team and/or addressed appropriately.
· Communicate and coordinate with the project management team to ensure all customer concerns regarding quality are addressed efficiently and effectively.
· Gather information about any quality-related or technical construction concerns to identify issues, consult, problem-solve, and provide solutions for issues.
· Drive continuous improvement and zero defects through quality plans and processes.
· Populate and maintain various quality management documents such as checklists, exhibits, and records appropriate to existing and emerging regulator, client and internal needs.
· Minimize deficiencies and reworks by ensuring the construction team has access to all required project documentation and by assisting field supervisors with identifying areas of concern.
· Competent to drive in various driving conditions, including heavy civil mining footprints, highways, congested work sites, controlled worksites, and extreme rough terrain.
Competencies and Certification
· Civil, Commercial, Mechanical, and/or Electrical construction background BC, experience in all four is considered an asset
· Degree or diploma in either engineering, engineering tech, or a journeyman trade ticket may also be considered
· Strong verbal communication, conflict management, proactive problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
· Ability to read and interpret standards, drawings, and technical documents
· Able to spend large parts of the day in the field walking across uneven and challenging terrains in varying weather conditions (winter and summer)
· Proven track record of assessing detailed work and unafraid of confrontation with an ability to work collaboratively in high-stress situations
· Able to keep detailed notes and possesses strong organization and document control skills
· Ability to handle tight deadlines and manage the workload of multiple projects simultaneously
· Knowledge and experience with site safety procedures, including a minimum of 3 years of experience working around heavy civil equipment and construction sites
· Existing field experience on civil-related projects
· Proven experience with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and Bluebeam Revu
· Experience with Microsoft SharePoint and Teams (Tasks by Planner, Lists, etc.)
· Experienced with driving up to a 1-ton flat-deck truck both on and off road, able to clearly identify passable terrain, and possess a strong ability to navigate with changing routes of travel across extreme off-road conditions.
Experience
· Minimum 2 years' experience in civil earthworks quality control.
· Comfortable using Excel formulas and report generation (skill testing questions will be asked during the interview)
· Minimum of 4 years driving experience in winter and off-road conditions (driving test may be required)
· Proven track record of self-motivation and remote supervision
