Cultural Programming and Communications Assistant
About Us
The Ukrainian National Federation of Canada – Avalon (Western NL), is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving, producing, and promoting a vibrant Ukrainian community and culture in Newfoundland and Labrador. We work to support and unite the Ukrainian community, assist newcomers, and offer programs that enrich cultural life across the province.
About the Role
Are you a creative student who is interested in arts and culture? Are you familiar with social media apps and platforms and enjoy creating digital content?
The Cultural Programming and Communications Assistant will support the planning and delivery of Ukrainian cultural programs and events in Corner Brook. This role is designed to provide meaningful work experience while building transferable skills in community engagement, program coordination, communication, and teamwork. Join our Western team this summer and gain valuable experience in the nonprofit sector!
Employment Period: June 29th – Aug 21st, 2026 (8 weeks, full-time)
Responsibilities:
- Assist with planning and delivering cultural and youth programs, workshops, and community events
- Support outreach and promotion of programs through social media and community networks
- Assist with participant registration, attendance tracking, and feedback collection
- Work alongside staff, volunteers, and community partners to support cultural programming
- Assist with planning and maintaining a social media content calendar
- Follow organizational policies related to safety, inclusion, and confidentiality
- Collaborate with staff and volunteers to highlight community stories
Ideal Candidate:
- a creative student interested in arts and culture, and who wants to gain professional experience in the nonprofit sector
- is familiar with social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Telegram Chat and YouTube
- is bilingual (Ukrainian and English)
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be entering or returning to post-secondary training in the upcoming academic year or must be currently enrolled in high school – Level I, II or III or moving from the intermediate level (Gr. 9) to Level I in September 2026
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
