Payroll Specialist - Remote, Part-Time
Beattie Book Solutions provides bookkeeping and controller services for small business owners to help them feel confident in their business. We're seeking a Payroll Specialist to join our team to run payroll for our clients accurately and on time, contribute to our developing systems, support our team members, and ultimately serve our clients excellently.
Key Responsibilities:
- Processing payroll for assigned clients, including remittances, ROEs, T4s/T4As, and year-end filings
- Maintaining regulatory awareness (e.g. CRA source deductions, EI, CPP, WSIB, provincial employment standards)
- Familiarity with unionized payroll environments, including collective agreement interpretation, union dues remittances, and grievance-related pay adjustments required
- Setting up payroll for new clients, including onboarding employee data and configuring pay schedules
- Awareness of custom payroll requirements for assigned clients and what needs to be prepared for each pay run
- Tools for general success include maintaining an up to date calendar, project management space (we use ClickUp), organizing client storage, and responding to client emails in a timely manner
- Asking questions and identifying concerns
- Identifying gaps in information and requesting accordingly
- Managing and communicating work capacity
- Participating in team planning and development meetings

Here are the skills you need to be successful:
- Payroll designation from the National Payroll Institute (PCP or CPM) required
- Strong understanding of Canadian payroll legislation and compliance requirements
- Experience working directly with clients
- Experience working in a remote team
- Experience using payroll and accounting software such as QuickBooks Online Payroll, Wagepoint, Dayforce, ADP, or similar
- Excellent English communication skills
- Proficient with Excel and/or Google Sheets
- Excellent time management skills, ability to work independently
- Knowledge of Canadian personal and corporate tax laws is an asset
The schedule is between 5 and 20 hours/week, Monday to Friday. Core hours are to be worked between 8am - 5pm EST and must be communicated with a manager.

Pay Band: $28-$32 per hour.
