The Pharmacy Assistant reports to the Pharmacy Manager and/or its delegates and is responsible for patient greeting, dispensing prescription medications, and answering general questions from patients and referring to the Pharmacist when required.
Job Description:
- Assisting the pharmacist with the preparation, packaging, and distribution of patient prescriptions;
- Evaluate legality, interpret and confirm the accuracy of all pertinent prescription information prior to filling, input, prepare, and label prescriptions;
- Evaluate consent forms to ensure patient information is up to date and in the pharmacy’s computer system;
- Data entry of patient information in PropelRx and third-party adjudication;
- Complete documentations such as third-party management and reconciliation, filing prescriptions, printing invoices, etc.;
- Monitor and maintain inventory levels and identify approaching and critical expiry dates;
- Handling customer prescription pick-up, assisting with cashier responsibilities as required;
- Having a can-do attitude when tasked with responsibilities;
- Provide excellent customer service;
- Other duties as assigned by the Pharmacy manager or the Pharmacist on-duty.
Required Skills / Knowledge / Experience:
- PropelRx/Nexxsys Pharmacy Software experience (preferred)
- 2+ years community pharmacy experience (preferred)
- Keen attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to asses customer needs, problem solve, and use critical thinking skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work well in a team setting
- Blister packaging and non-sterile compounding knowledge is an asset
