Produce Clerk
About the role
We are looking for a dependable and hardworking Produce Clerk to join our team. In this hands-on role, you will take ownership of the produce department from delivery to display — unloading shipments, managing inventory, and ensuring the highest quality of fruits and vegetables reaches our customers every day.
Key responsibilities
- Recieve, unload, and sort produce deliveries from incoming trucks in a timely and organized manner
- Transport product to the sales floor and walk-in coolers
- Work comfortably inside refrigerated storage rooms to organize, rotate, and replenish stock
- Rotate product using FIFO (first in, first out) practices to minimize waste and maintain freshness
- Conduct regular inventory counts and accurately report stock levels to the buyer to support ordering decisions and reduce shrink
- Build and maintain attractive produce displays that are clean, full, and properly labelled
- Carefully inspect incoming deliveries and displayed product for quality, freshness, and condition — removing or flagging any damaged, overripe, or substandard items promptly
- Provide friendly and helpful service to customers, answering questions about product availability and freshness
- Keep the produce area, coolers, and back stock areas clean, safe, and organized at all times
What we're looking for
- Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs repeatedly throughout the shift
- Comfortable working in cold environments, including walk-in refrigerators and freezers
- Physical stamina to stand, walk, bend, and perform manual tasks for extended periods
- Strong attention to detail — able to spot quality issues, track inventory accurately, and maintain consistent standards on the sales floor
- Comfortable with basic counting and record-keeping to support inventory reporting for the department buyer
- Self-motivated and able to work independently — in a small team environment, you'll often take the lead on your department without direct supervision
- Reliable, punctual, and a collaborative team player with a positive attitude
- Previous experience in a grocery, retail, or warehouse environment is an asset but not required — we will train the right candidate
- Driver's licence is a strong asset — candidates who can assist with customer deliveries or store transfers will be given priority consideration
Working conditions
- Early morning, evening, and weekend availability may be required
- Regular exposure to cold temperatures in coolers and refrigerated areas
- Physically active role — expect to be on your feet and moving throughout your shift
Pay: From $17.60 per hour
Experience:
- Grocery: 1 year (preferred)
Licence/Certification:
- Driving Licence (preferred)
Work Location: In person
