The Congress of Black Women is a non-profit organization, committed to making changes in education, health care and social justice. Our mission is to provide a forum for black women to improve their lives, while identifying and addressing issues that affect them, their families and their communities.
Position Overview
We are seeking a creative, motivated, and community-minded volunteer to support the chapter’s social media presence and public relations efforts. The volunteer will help increase awareness of our Restorative Program and youth initiatives by creating engaging content, promoting community events, building partnerships, and teaching team members how to effectively use social media platforms.
This role is ideal for students interested in communications, public relations, marketing, media studies, community development, or youth engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Social Media Management
- Create, schedule, and manage content across platforms including:
- Facebook
- Instagram
- TikTok
- Other emerging social media platforms
- Develop engaging posts, reels, stories, and promotional materials
- Assist in maintaining a consistent online presence and brand voice
- Monitor engagement and suggest ways to improve outreach and visibility
Training & Support
- Teach and support chapter members and volunteers on how to use social media platforms effectively
- Provide guidance on content creation, posting strategies, and audience engagement
- Help develop simple social media guides or training resources
Youth Program Promotion
- Promote the chapter’s youth and restorative justice programs through online campaigns and community outreach
- Research Black youth-focused events, community activities, and summer programs
- Attend community events and youth gatherings to promote the Restorative Program and connect with youth organizations
- Assist with distributing promotional materials and representing the chapter professionally
Community Partnerships & Outreach
- Help build and strengthen partnerships with youth-serving organizations, schools, and community groups
- Support outreach efforts to increase collaboration opportunities
- Assist in identifying organizations aligned with the chapter’s mission and goals
Qualifications
- Student or recent graduate in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, media, or related field
- Strong interest in youth engagement and community outreach
- Familiarity with major social media platforms and trends
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Creative, organized, and self-motivated
- Comfortable engaging with community members and organizations
- Experience with Canva, video editing, or graphic design is an asset

Time Commitment
Flexible 10 – 15 volunteer hours, including occasional evenings and weekends for community events and outreach activities.
Mission Impact
This role plays an important part in increasing awareness of the Chapter and the Restorative practices initiatives, strengthening youth engagement, and building positive community partnerships that support Black youth and families.
Pay: From $1.00 per hour
Work Location: Hybrid remote in Brampton, ON
