Title and Authority
: Millwright Apprentice
: This role reports directly to the Service Coordinator, indirectly to the Technical Services Manager, and works under the Supervision of a Certified Millwright. This role has no supervisory or managerial authority and no direct reports.
General Description of the Role
A Millwright Apprentice is responsible to assist with mechanical trade services by troubleshooting, repair, installation, and fabrication of mechanical equipment, as well as repair, modification, and installations of new and existing structures throughout the site under the supervision of a certified Millwright to support the day-to-day operation of ELRUS aggregate industrial equipment and to ensure customer commitments are met.
Role Accountabilities
- Working with the service team to assist with the disassembling, inspection, reassembling installation, maintenance, and repairs, to assist with troubleshooting all aspects of aggregate equipment and industrial machinery in our facility and at the client sites.
- Assisting with all aspects of mounting, securing, adjusting parts and components to assemble and repair equipment.
- Maintain the quality of work, efficiency, and continual improvement.
- Maintaining adequate communication with the team to ensure workflow and deadlines are met.
Specific Tasks
- Receive instructions from the certified Millwrights and/or Lead or Manager to complete work orders for the job.
- Review the sequence of tasks and determine the tools and materials for the job with superiors to ensure the job is being completed to standards.
- Operate rig equipment, overhead cranes, forklifts, and dollies for moving heavy parts or equipment.
- Fit bearings, align gears and shafts, install motors, connect couplings and belts.
- Repair, weld or replace defective parts.
- Install lights, check brakes, troubleshoot hydraulics.
- Pour backing compound (El-Bak) in the shop.
- Test equipment and adjust, as necessary.
- Operate hand tools, drills, grinders, saws, and wrenches.
- Working with controlled products requires WHMIS training and workers knowledge of Safety Data Sheets.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Experience
- Able to work effectively and productively without close supervision.
- Mechanically inclined and able to problem solve complex problems with mechanical equipment.
- Punctual and reliable.
- Flexible and adaptable team player who is service oriented.
- Able to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Someone with excellent time management and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise effectively.
- Extremely detail oriented and consistently produce quality work.
- Able to safely lift 50lbs.
- Actively enrolled in an Industrial Mechanic/Millwright apprenticeship program.
- 0-3 years’ experience with industrial equipment, ideally in a manufacturing environment.
- A valid driver’s licence in good standing and are able to be fully insured.
- A post-secondary education.
- Worked in the heavy equipment aggregate industry.
- A valid forklift licence.
