We are looking for an experienced Unity developer who can turn professional game development experience into clear, practical, and engaging instruction for adult learners. This is a part-time contract role for someone who enjoys teaching, mentoring, and helping aspiring developers move from tutorials to building complete games.
This is not a role for someone who wants to demonstrate code while students watch. You will help learners understand how games are actually designed, programmed, debugged, tested, and shipped—and coach them through the moments when their code, systems, or game ideas do not work the first time.
Over 30 weeks, students will build their skills in Unity and C#, complete hands-on projects, and develop portfolio-ready work. Your industry examples, feedback, and mentorship will help learners build both technical confidence and a more realistic understanding of professional game development.

Lead two engaging, instructor-led online classes each week for adult learners, using a learner-centered and project-based approach (plus one online lab per month).

Teach C# programming and Unity development through live demonstrations, guided practice, debugging, workshops, and hands-on projects.

Explain core concepts such as object-oriented programming, data structures, algorithms, design patterns, game architecture, physics, animation, user interfaces, input systems, and gameplay systems.

Help learners move beyond copying tutorials by teaching them how to break down problems, read errors, debug systematically, and make sound technical decisions.

Guide students through game development workflows from ideation and prototyping through implementation, testing, iteration, and presentation.

Provide timely, specific, and constructive feedback on assignments, projects, code quality, technical decisions, and portfolio work.

Share real industry experiences, case studies, production challenges, mistakes, and lessons learned—not sanitized theory.

Create an online classroom where adult learners feel comfortable asking questions, sharing unfinished work, and learning through experimentation.

Prepare thoroughly for each class and adapt delivery based on student comprehension, participation, and feedback.

Mark assignments and projects consistently against established rubrics and academic standards.

Collaborate with Education team staff, career coaches, and program operations to create a connected learner experience.

Communicate proactively about learner progress, attendance concerns, curriculum gaps, or anything that could improve course outcomes.

Contribute feedback to the ongoing refinement of the curriculum so it remains current with industry practice and emerging AI capabilities.

At least three years of professional game development experience, with meaningful hands-on responsibility for shipped games, production projects, or substantial commercial work.

Strong practical proficiency with Unity and C#, including the ability to explain not only how something works, but why one approach may be better than another.

Strong knowledge of object-oriented programming, data structures, algorithms, programming design patterns, debugging, version control, and software development best practices.

A portfolio that clearly demonstrates your game development work, technical contribution, and level of ownership.

The ability to discuss your own decisions, trade-offs, mistakes, and outcomes rather than only describing what a broader team delivered.

Strong presentation, facilitation, written communication, and interpersonal skills.

The ability to make complex technical concepts accessible without oversimplifying them.

The patience and judgment to support learners with different technical backgrounds, confidence levels, and career goals.

A degree or diploma in Game Development, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field is preferred, but equivalent professional experience will be considered.

Previous teaching, facilitation, mentorship, coaching, technical training, or teaching-assistant experience is strongly preferred.

If your Unity experience is mostly personal tutorials or school assignments and you have limited professional production experience.

If you enjoy building games but do not enjoy explaining technical ideas, mentoring beginners, or giving detailed feedback.

If your default teaching style is to code quickly while students watch without checking whether they understand.

If you tend to solve student problems for them instead of helping them develop independent debugging and problem-solving skills.

Cohort dates: September 15, 2026 through April 29, 2027.

Live class instruction: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30-9:00 p.m. Pacific Time.

Live technical labs: One Wednesday evening per month from 6:30-9:00 p.m. Pacific Time.

Delivery: 100% online.

Location: Open to candidates based in Canada. Preference may be given to candidates in Western Canada as most students will be based in BC due to the University partnerships in this region.

Estimated commitment: Approximately 10-12 hours per week on average, including live teaching, preparation and assignment marking (this role does not include office hours or 1:1 tutoring).

Training and onboarding: Availability is required before the cohort begins.

Contract value: $10,875 for the full contract term of 30 weeks, consisting of 14 semi-monthly payments of $650 and a final $1,775 completion payment.

Performance: Instructors may be eligible for an end-of-contract performance bonus of $500 and will receive first consideration for future cohorts.
