Chemical Operator – Tuesday to Saturday Day Shift
Pay Rate: $22.00 per hour
Schedule:
- Tuesday–Friday: 08:15–16:45
- Saturday: 12‑hour shift; start times vary based on Household Hazardous Waste collection events (as early as 5:30 a.m.)
We are hiring two Chemical Operators to support waste handling, processing, and client‑site collection activities. This role includes both facility‑based work and off‑site service at client locations and municipal Household Hazardous Waste events.
This position includes additional requirements related to government security clearance and operation of company vehicles.
Key Responsibilities
- Visit client sites to inventory, pack, and remove chemical waste.
- Prepare hazardous and non‑hazardous waste containers for shipment.
- Receive incoming waste (bulk liquids/solids and containerized).
- Collect samples from vehicles and containers for laboratory analysis.
- Ensure waste is processed safely and in accordance with acceptance protocols.
- Follow all operating procedures and safety requirements.
- Complete all required paperwork accurately and on time.
- Conduct job hazard and risk assessments.
- Provide strong customer service during client interactions.
- Report defects, damages, spills, contamination, or incidents to the Shift Supervisor or General Manager.
- Attend Household Hazardous Waste collection events; identify, classify, and separate waste; prepare manifest documents for transport back to the facility.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Comfortable working weekend shifts (primarily Saturdays; 2–3 Sunday events per season).
- Degree or Diploma in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Technology, Environmental Technology, or equivalent with strong working knowledge of chemistry.
- Familiarity with Ontario Regulation 347 and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (asset).
- Experience handling hazardous and non‑hazardous waste (asset).
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand tools (asset).
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage multiple tasks.
- Safety‑conscious and detail‑oriented.
- Comfortable working in outdoor environments year‑round.
- Able to report to work clean‑shaven for respirator safety.
- Ability to follow procedures and work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to repetitively lift 40 lbs above waist height.
- Valid G‑class driver’s licence with a clean abstract.
- Must meet security clearance requirements for government contracts, including continuous residency in Canada for the past 5 years.
Pay: $21.00-$22.00 per hour
