Nanaimo Foodshare is seeking an organized, adaptable, and experienced Kitchen Coordinator to oversee our community kitchen during a planned absence through mid-October. This temporary full-time position has a strong possibility of continuing beyond October in the same or a modified role.
Our small commercial kitchen prepares nutritious lunches and snacks for programs and special events while serving as a hub for cooking classes, workshops, and community food initiatives. What You'll Do
As Kitchen Coordinator, you'll oversee the daily operation of our community kitchen and ensure it runs safely and efficiently.
- Coordinate the day-to-day operation of the Nanaimo Foodshare kitchen
- Maintain FoodSafe standards and ensure a clean, safe, and organized kitchen
- Evaluate kitchen processes and recommend improvements
- Train and supervise kitchen assistants in FoodSafe practices and basic food preparation
- Manage food and kitchen inventory and coordinate supply purchases
- Develop and supervise the preparation and delivery of creative, nutritious lunches within budgets.
- Monitor lunch program budgets and maintain accurate record
- Build positive relationships with community partners and program staff
What You'll Bring
- Interest in community food security
- Strong knowledge of nutrition, meal planning, and safe food handling
- Minimum 2 years' experience in a kitchen leadership or supervisory role
- A calm, positive, and enthusiastic demeanor
- Dependability, and adaptability
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence (or higher)
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs
- Experience working with diverse populations is an asset
