About The Role
Rockport Commercial is looking for a highly skilled Class 1 Driver to haul various material and equipment for our active projects. The Class 1 Driver will be responsible for navigating between and directly on our active multi-family apartment construction sites. We are looking for someone who is comfortable navigating tight and challenging areas that require high attention to detail and precise maneuvers. Our fleet consists strictly of manual transmission (stick shift) trucks; you must be fully proficient with standard transmissions to be considered for this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Transport materials and equipment between our active multifamily apartment construction sites.
- Ensure loads are properly secured using straps and/or chains depending on what is being hauled while following load securement rules and regulations.
- Meticulously navigate through rough terrain, mud, hills, and tight urban job sites.
- Expertly operate manual transmission trucks without riding the clutch or grinding gears.
- Follow and abide by all road laws and rules, weight rules, and Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure (MTI) rules.
- Coordinate closely with site spotters and heavy equipment operators to position the truck perfectly for loading and unloading.
- Conduct daily pre- and post-trip safety inspections—checking brakes, tires, and fluids—while documenting results and performing basic preventative maintenance to ensure the truck is safe and site-ready.
What We’re Looking For
- Must have experience on construction sites, drivers with road only experience will not be considered.
- Someone with a high level of attention to detail and safety standards while operating our vehicles.
- Experience hauling lowbed trailers is considered a strong asset.
- Someone who is willing to step out of the truck and assist with tasks on the ground when needed.
- Experience hauling oversized loads and obtaining permits is considered a strong asset.
Qualifications
- Proven mastery of manual transmission (standard/stick shift) commercial vehicles. Drivers with automatic-only restrictions on their licenses will not be considered.
- A valid Class 1 Driver’s License with a clean commercial driving abstract.
- Must maintain a medically fit status with a valid MPI Driver Medical Certificate.
- Minimum 2 years of commercial driving experience specifically on construction sites or industrial yards.
- Capability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb into truck beds, and secure heavy chains or straps.
