RECE/ECA Summer Contract Posting
Ascot Avenue Community Day Care provides early learning and care programs and services for children from infancy to school age in two sites: Regal Road Jr. Public School and Oakwood Collegiate Institute. Infants, toddlers, and preschoolers are located at the Oakwood site and kindergarten and school-age children are located at the Regal Road site.
The agency is seeking 4*, RECE or ECA’s, for a full-time summer contract beginning June 26, 2026, and ending September 4, 2026.* All RECE or ECA employees at Ascot Avenue Community Day Care and who are members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 5213.02, are eligible to apply for this position.
The work schedule may vary from time to time based on the needs of the center and directives from the Ministry of Education and/or Public Health.
POSITION: Summer Contract Full-Time RECE, 35/hr per week.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
RECE Floats must have an ECE diploma or degree (or equivalency); and must provide evidence of registration in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators.
RECE/ECA Floats must have:
- Current and valid Standard First Aid / CPR-C certification(infant/child/adult).
- Criminal Record Check for Children and Vulnerable Adults (Local and Provincial) -Clearance dated within 6 months of start date.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Experience working in a childcare setting.
2. Previous experience working with all age groups (infant, toddler, preschool, kindergarten, and school age experience is an asset). Must be willing to work with all age groups and be flexible to accommodate needs of the program.
3. Experience developing and implementing emergent programs using the ELECT framework - demonstrated effective observation and documentation skills.
4. Basic computer skills (i.e., Microsoft word) and use of laptop/tablet.
5. Demonstrated ability to work with families in complex situations and from a variety of cultures, and differing family values and beliefs.
6. Able and willing to work flexible hours (between 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.) – shifts and room assignments are assigned according to Centre needs and subject to change as necessary.
7. Able and willing to work outside of centre’s operational hours (i.e., some evenings or weekends to attend mandatory monthly staff meetings, special events, professional development, etc.) as needed. Monthly evening staff meetings are mandatory for all employees.
8. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a cohesive team setting.
9. Demonstrated leadership skills - ability to take initiative, assess and respond to situations in a positive, effective, and timely manner, and work independently requiring minimal supervision and/or direction.
10. Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills – able to communicate positively and effectively with children, parents, staff, and management team.
11. Knowledge of relevant requirements and legislation as per the City of Toronto's 'Assessment for Quality Improvement (AQI) and Ministry of Education's licensing legislation (CCEYA, 2014) and HDLH approaches, as well at Toronto Public Health requirements and standards.
12. Works well independently and in a team setting, requiring minimal supervision. Able to take initiative in daily duties and delegated tasks.

Ministry requirements as recommended by Toronto Medical Officer of Health, and a clear health and vulnerable sector police reference check dated within 6 months of start date, as a condition of employment, as applicable.
