The Field Engineer is responsible for onsite commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, and servicing of electronic communications and network equipment. All work must meet high-quality standards while maintaining a professional and safe working environment. This role requires a strong understanding of AV technology and network infrastructure to ensure multimedia and communication systems operate efficiently. The ideal candidate will be tech-driven, solution-oriented, and comfortable collaborating with IT and project teams.
Responsibilities
Service and Troubleshooting
Perform service calls on AV and network systems. Diagnose and resolve technical issues to minimize downtime and ensure optimal performance.
System Configuration
Configure AV and network equipment including projectors, microphones, speakers, video conferencing systems, switches, routers, control interfaces, and firewalls. Strong understanding of AV system architecture and signal flow is required.
Control Systems
Upload and support control systems (e.g., Crestron, Extron, QSC). Perform debugging and minor adjustments as required.
System Integration
Collaborate with IT and media services teams to integrate AV and network systems for compatibility and efficiency.
Technical Support
Provide end-user support and training to ensure effective use of AV and network systems.
Quality Assurance
Test and validate integrated systems to ensure they meet client requirements and performance standards.
Documentation
Maintain detailed documentation including system configurations, IP schedules, troubleshooting guides, updates, and maintenance records. Update ticketing systems with technical notes, status updates, and time tracking.
Security Compliance
Ensure systems comply with organizational security policies. Monitor for vulnerabilities and apply appropriate safeguards.
Safety Compliance
Follow all company and client safety programs and procedures.
Other Duties
Additional tasks as assigned by management.
Qualifications
Education
High school diploma or equivalent required. Additional technical training or certifications in AV systems or engineering is an asset (e.g., AVIXA CTS, Crestron, QSC, Extron).
Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of AV systems, communications technologies, and network equipment. Experience with Extron, Crestron, QSC, Biamp, and similar platforms preferred.
Problem-Solving
Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve technical issues in the field efficiently.
Communication
Strong interpersonal and communication skills for working with internal teams and clients.
Technical Tools
Familiarity with version control systems for configuration/code management is an asset.
Requirements
Valid driver's license and access to a personal vehicle required.
Ability to obtain government security clearance is required.
Travel & Schedule
Some travel required for installations, deployments, service calls, and training.
Monday to Friday schedule with flexibility for evenings and weekends as needed.
