Responsibilities
The Director of Finance will provide solid coaching and mentorship to the team while managing and facilitating daily accounting operations and serving as an ambassador of Muskoka Brewery’s values and overall business strategy. In addition, other key priorities of the role include:
- Manage the day-to-day function of the department, including month-end and year-end closing processes, within company deadlines.
- Oversee the general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash flow, banking and expense management functions, ensuring strong financial controls and adherence to company policies and procedures.
- Prepare monthly and fiscal financial and managerial accounting reports in accordance with GAAP while communicating results to the Strategic Leadership Team and department leads.
- Lead the year-end audit process, including coordination of information, timelines and stakeholder support with the brewery audit partners.
- Work closely with the VP of Finance to advise the Strategic and Commercial Leadership Team on the financial impact of key business decisions, including pricing, break-even analysis, product mix, terms of sale, inventory modelling and capital planning.
- Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting processes, with the assistance of the VP of Finance, including ongoing variance analysis and performance monitoring.
- Ensure compliance with all provincial and federal tax filing and reporting requirements.
- Design and maintain the inventory valuation process and standard costs for brewery products, with support from the operations team. Analyze actual versus standard production costs, report variances and recommend process improvements through ERP.
- Partner with various department managers to ensure financial process integrity and provide excellent support to facilitate budget and departmental objectives.
- Maintain strong internal controls and financial governance to support compliance, safeguard company assets and ensure the integrity of financial information.
- Lead the communication and reinforcement of accounting policies, procedures and SOPs, ensuring the team and broader organization remain aware of changes and aligned with compliance expectations.
- Provide solid guidance and coaching to the accounting team, to encourage and support career growth and optimize learning opportunities.
- Assist on other accounting and finance projects as required.
Qualifications:
- University Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration with a CPA designation.
- 8+ years of progressive finance experience in a manufacturing or brewery environment, including people management experience.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, with adaptability and openness to using AI tools and models to enhance analysis and decision-making.
- Strong accounting and analytical skills, including a solid understanding of GAAP.
- Demonstrated people leadership skills, with the ability to lead with authenticity, care and an appreciation for individual strengths.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the brewery.
- Strong business acumen, including experience with budgeting and financial planning.
- Ability to work on-site at the Brewery within a flexible work arrangement, with limited travel across regions to support initiatives, brewery events and key relationships.
