APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED FOR THE FULL-TIME POSITION OF EARLY CHILDHOOD WORKER FOR THE ATHABASCA HEALTH AUTHORITY.
GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:
Reporting to the Manager of AHA Safe Shelter, the Early Childhood Worker develops and plans activities for youth and children’s in-house residents at AHA Safe Shelter. The Early Childhood Worker plans an annual work plan to include recreation, crafts, and educational programs and is part of the Safe Shelter team to provide a safe home-like environment for in-house youth and children.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Client Care.
- Provide children’s activities.
- Facilitate in-house recreation, crafts, and educational programs.
- Be part of the Safe Shelter Team.
- Take an active role in following an annual work plan.
- Provide structure, guidance, and a safe home-like environment.
- Assess, listen, support, validate, and document interaction.
- Referrals and advocating.
- Liaise with schools.
- Perform household/yard cleaning as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Post-secondary education in Early Childhood Education, Youth Care field, or a combination of education and experience required to fulfill the duties above.
- Knowledge of child growth, development, and behaviors.
- Crisis management skills are an asset.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, nights, and weekends.
- Experience and knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Demonstrate knowledge of and empathy for victims of interpersonal violence.
- Experience working in a cross-cultural setting; knowledge/awareness of First Nations/Dene culture is an asset.
- Clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
