Job Overview
Reporting to the Haisla Community School (HCS) Principal, the Library Technician is responsible for the daily operation, organization, and maintenance of the school library. This role supports student learning and staff instructional needs by managing library resources, promoting literacy, teaching library skills, and providing access to educational materials and technology. The Library Technician works closely with students, teachers, and administration to create a welcoming, organized, and resource-rich learning environment.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Select, order, catalog, and process books, periodicals, audiovisual materials, digital resources, and other learning materials in accordance with school policies and curriculum needs.
- Manage library circulation systems, including checking materials in and out, maintaining circulation records, and tracking overdue, lost, or damaged items.
- Evaluate, acquire, organize, and maintain library collections to support student achievement and instructional programs.
- Repair and maintain books and materials, coordinate binding services when required, and remove outdated or unusable resources.
- Conduct annual and ongoing inventories of library resources, equipment, and learning materials.
- Assist students and staff in locating, selecting, and accessing library resources for educational and recreational reading purposes.
- Teach and reinforce library, information literacy, and research skills that support curriculum objectives.
- Provide guidance in the use of library technology, databases, online resources, and educational media.
- Collaborate with teachers to support curriculum delivery, classroom projects, literacy initiatives, and resource selection.
- Promote literacy and lifelong learning through reading programs, library activities, displays, and special events.
- Prepare and maintain library displays, exhibits, bulletin boards, and promotional materials.
- Support student learning by fostering a positive, inclusive, and respectful library environment.
- Assist in enforcing school expectations and standards for student behavior within the library.
- Participate in professional development opportunities, workshops, conferences, and in-service training as appropriate.
- Maintain the library in a clean, organized, welcoming, and attractive manner.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Principal.
Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Library Technician Certificate, post-secondary coursework in Library Studies, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience working in a library, educational settings, or learning resource centre is an asset.
- Experience working for a band government or Indigenous organization is an asset.
- Knowledge of library cataloguing, circulation systems, inventory management, and information organization principles.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on data-driven decision-making.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and various databases, search engines and Outlook/email.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with an attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills with the ability to professionally connect with and influence a diverse group of individuals.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Satisfactory completion of criminal records check (with vulnerable sector screening).
