JOB SUMMARY:
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) implements the residential care plans for each client/resident and performs all general nursing duties to enhance the physical, mental, and social care of the clients/residents within the LPN scope of practice.
EDUCATION/PREVIOUS WORK EXPERIENCE:
- Licensed Practical Nurse Diploma with practicing membership in College of Licensed Practical Nurses of BC and two years of recent related experience in gerontological, mental health, psychiatric or community nursing.
- Experience with case management.
- Current occupational first aid and CPR certification.
- Non-violent Crisis Intervention course preferred.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Negative Tuberculosis test results.
- Clear Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Ability to communicate effectively in English verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work independently and professionally.
- Ability to handle residents with underlying mental illness and drug dependencies.
- Demonstrated cultural safety and sensitivity, including respect for Indigenous peoples, diverse cultural backgrounds, and the unique needs of marginalized populations.
- Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate care, and collaborate with interdisciplinary team members in care planning.
- Demonstrated clinical knowledge of and ability to perform all general nursing duties within the LPN scope of practice.
- Demonstrated time management and multitasking skills.
- Ability to work in a stressful and changing work environment.
- Ability to operate computer programs, such as Microsoft Office, Google Workspace and Windows software applications.
- Ability to empathize and work with people who may have experienced abuse, poverty, grief and loss, oppression, violence, mental health challenges, and/or addictions issues, and/or those who may be living with HIV/AIDS or other life-limiting or life-threatening conditions.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position such as capabilities which are compatible with walking, stopping, bending, and lifting heavy residents using effective and safe body mechanics.
