The Opportunity
Reporting to the VP of Sales, the National Account Manager (NAM) will be responsible for developing and executing national and key account sales plans for existing accounts to maximize sales and profitability. The NAM will conduct regular business reviews with high-level decision makers at customer head offices to discuss product and program performance and adjust or revise programs or targets as required. They will also be expected to provide input for the annual budgeting process for assigned accounts, monitor and revise forecasts as necessary and mange sales expenses. This opportunity is for a candidate that will possess a strong drive for success, exceptional leadership skills, and a passion for building strong relationships.
Major Responsibilites:
- Direct account responsibility for specific assigned major accounts and back up on others. To include periodic reviews of performance with customers, including recommendation of styling changes. Presentation of new styles/samples etc.
- With VP Sales approval, ensure all documentation and systems between customers and Custom Leather is up to date: i.e. price lists, labelling, store levels/budgets, shipping information, order entry information, vendor agreements – volume discounts, marketing/ advertising allowances, etc. Communicate all information in a timely manner to relevant co-workers, both in the office and the plant.
- Assist with the forecasting of styles related to assigned accounts, as well as updating forecasts for any new styles added, and to reflect any trends that occur during each season.
- As part of the Sales Team, periodically review our inventories of both finished goods and raw materials, to ensure that all components are used up in new and future programs, or clearings.
- With VP Sales involvement/approval, authorize all "program returns" of product from customers, or negotiate appropriate markdown allowances. Where applicable, discuss any concerns about the future saleability of these products with the V.P. Global Sourcing and/or Operations.
- With VP Sales involvement/approval, handle any “one off” requests for margin assistance and/or sales promotions from customers.
- Respond in a timely manner to any non-routine requests for information or assistance from customers.
- Manage any agents or field service company(s) used to service our customers’ belt racks and displays, including determining the frequency of visits, the costs, and approving all invoices for payment.
- Periodically travel and visit out of town customers as appropriate. Establish and maintain cordial and professional working relationship with the relevant buyers.
- Assist in the preparation of the company’s Annual Budget – help develop revenue and margin assumptions, as well as the costs of selected sales/marketing expenses.
Qualifications:
- College degree in sales, marketing, or equivalent experience.
- Major account management experience, with Walmart account experience considered a strong asset.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- 10+ years of sales and account management experience, preferably in the consumer-packaged goods (CPG) industry.
- Proven record of growing sales and expanding business.
- Strategic thinking and data-driven decision-making.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills.
- Negotiation, influencing, and persuasion abilities.
- Knowledge of order management, logistics, and sales forecasting.
- Passion for the CPG industry.
This position is a full-time office based role and collaborates closely with all the internal departments of the company.
