Job Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of the sanitizer/cleaner is hygiene and to ensure the equipment, hallways, picking rooms and other farm implements and tools such as squeegees and shovels are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized. The focus on hygiene and adherence to company policies and procedures regarding sanitization is to minimize and possibly eliminate the spreading of diseases.
Safety is a key concern and cannot be stressed enough. All tasks and responsibilities of the sanitizer/cleaner must be handled carefully and safely.

Hours of Work
The shift begins daily at 6pm and ends when the assigned tasks are completed and cleaning and sanitizing/disinfecting duties are finished. The schedule and hours are subject to change; there are no guaranteed hours.
As legislated by the Ministry of Labour-Employment Standards Act (MOL-ESA), a half hour will automatically be deducted off a shift in excess of 5 hours. Please take the ½ hour break accordingly.
The farm operates 365 days a year, so the sanitizing/cleaning crew is required to work Saturday and Sunday every other weekend on a rotation basis.
Special Equipment
Steel-toed C.S.A. approved rubber and regular work boots must be worn while on duty. Hairnets and bump caps are required which are supplied by the company.
Casual clothing (e.g. blue jeans, sweatshirts, t-shirts) are generally worn.

The sanitizing/cleaning personnel must wear all personal protective equipment as required (e.g. gloves, safety glasses).
Environment
The temperature in the back hallways varies depending on the season and if the individual is filling or emptying a room. When the growing room reaches the end of its cycle, it gets steamed to 70 degrees Celsius so all bacteria is killed. In most cases rooms are cooled down prior to emptying but keep in mind temperatures can still reach over 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
The average temperature for the growing rooms is 18 degrees Celsius (approx. 67 degrees Fahrenheit). The rooms are slightly damp due to watering which occurs at night. Except for the picking lights, the rooms are dark (no windows or natural lighting). Each room is equipped with its own computer-operated temperature controls which control the humidity, temperature and air-flow.
