Chilliwack Bowls of Hope Society (CBOH) is a registered charity delivering food security programs to children and families in Chilliwack and surrounding areas. Our mission is to help local children reach their full potential — fueling their minds and bodies, one meal at a time.
We are seeking a reliable and hard-working Farm Hand – Harvester to support our new Community Farm. This role is essential to ensuring the timely and quality harvesting of produce for both community distribution and our school lunch program.
Position Overview
As a Farm Hand focused on harvesting, you’ll be responsible for gathering fresh crops, maintaining quality control, and assisting in post-harvest processing and storage. You’ll work directly with our Farm Manager to ensure produce is ready for delivery to those who need it most.
Key Responsibilities
- Harvesting Crops: Pick vegetables and fruits according to harvest schedules, ensuring gentle handling to minimize damage
- Weeding: Remove weeds from garden beds and pathways to support healthy crop growth. Tasks may include hand-pulling, hoeing, and clearing debris while being careful around young plants.
- Processing Harvest: Food processing may be part of job. Chopping and packing
- Sorting & Packing: Sort, clean, and package harvested produce for delivery or storage
- Tool Maintenance: Use harvesting tools and equipment safely and efficiently; clean and maintain tools after use
- Quality Control: Identify and report any pest, disease, or quality issues to the Farm Manager
- Post-Harvest Processing: Assist with washing, trimming, chopping, packing, and organizing produce for distribution.
- Documentation: Help track types and amounts of crops harvested; report any issues during harvesting
- Support environmental sustainability: through practices such as composting, soil care, and responsible resource use
Skills You’ll Gain

Eligibility (Canada Summer Jobs Program)
To apply, you must:
- Be between 15 and 30 years old (inclusive) at the start of employment
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee protection status
- Be legally entitled to work in British Columbia
Required Attributes
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Strong attention to detail and care in handling produce
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Working with a variety of volunteers with different abilities
- Physically able to perform labour-intensive tasks for several hours
- Comfortable doing repetitive and sometimes strenuous work
- Able to maintain pace during busy harvest periods
Assets (Preferred but Not Required)
- Previous experience with farm work or gardening
- Familiarity with safe tool and equipment use
- Interest in food security, sustainability, or agriculture
- 1 year kitchen experience
Additional Information
- Language: English (French not required)
- Commute/Relocation: Must be able to reliably commute to Chilliwack, BC, or plan to relocate before starting
- Contract Length: 8 weeks only
Pay: $19.00 per hour
