As a Branch Manager:
The Branch Manager II is accountable for providing leadership and direction to a team of financial services and sales professionals while supporting Meridian’s mission statement. The incumbent will be responsible for the overall growth of Meridian’s portfolio by pro-actively promoting Meridian’s profile and expanding our local market share. In addition to the above responsibilities, the incumbent must have a passion for customer service, ensuring that Meridian maintains its tradition of exceeding customer expectations. This position is ideal for individuals who understand and thrive within the changing landscape of the financial industry.
Key Responsibilities:
Business Development
- In conjunction with the District Vice President, set long and short-term business development and sales objectives to ensure achievement of targets in support of Meridian’s overall business objectives.
- Achieves specific business development objectives while controlling risk, expenses and maintaining revenues to plan.
- Develops and maintains revenue-generating Member relationships by calling on existing and prospective Members, including: identification of prospects; suitable methods of contact; and determination of their needs and appropriate products and/or services.
- Provides regular reports and updates on competitive market intelligence, market situations, Member needs and interests and the potential for new products and services.
- Partners with Commercial Account Managers, Cash Management Specialists, Senior Small Business Advisors and Senior Wealth Advisors to generate deposits and relationship growth, and share best practices. Makes referrals to other departments as appropriate.
- Provides integrated delivery of financial services and products, including customized lending, cash management, and investment management with a thorough knowledge and understanding of all Meridian products and services and their related features and benefits.
- Actively promotes the development of Centres of Influence (COI) as sources of referral business. Pursues and generates new business opportunities through contact with local businesses and active participation with local community organizations to maximize networking and relationship building opportunities.
- Successfully implements Corporate marketing programs in support of business development objectives and achieving business plan projections resulting in a balanced growth of the book of business.
Branch Management
- Demonstrates effective leadership by empowering performance, giving constructive one on one coaching, and building a team atmosphere through positive interactions.
- Models Meridian’s corporate values consistently demonstrating Meridian’s values in action
- A credible leader fostering greater pride in the organization, a strong spirit of cooperation and teamwork, and feelings of ownership and personal responsibility.
- Action oriented, achieves results by capitalizing on opportunities and leveraging experiences and knowledge of others. A change agent and strong communicator, who can modify style to gain understanding and commitment from others.
- Well-developed coaching skills using a variety of coaching techniques to support achievement of desired goals. Shares knowledge/experience with others and supports them in their development goals
Employee Engagement
- Develops and implements branch strategies, goals, objectives, and related activities to achieve a high standard of Member service, optimal business retention, profitable growth and productivity.
- Leads branch activities aimed at portfolio, Member and new business development.
- Achieves results by capitalizing on opportunities and leveraging experiences and knowledge of the team and internal business partners.
- Ensures employees are coached to review and follow-up on Member activity and information on a regular basis ensuring completion of activities i.e. renewals, action required, changes to information etc.
- Possesses well-developed interpersonal relations to establish and maintain positive relationships, actively listening to colleagues and Members; demonstrates empathy for others; resolves interpersonal conflicts, remains objective and shares information in a timely, open and honest manner with team.
Community Engagement
- Acts as an ambassador within the local community, promoting the Meridian Credit Union brand.
- Recognizes strategic opportunities under the Good Neighbour Program.
- Develops, executes and participates in activities within the local community that enhance a strong business partnership.
- Maintains a highly visible presence in the local community through civic volunteer and community work and involvement in the community’s business affairs.
- Participates and provides seminars or workshops on various credit union products and or promotions.

- A strong team leader and team player. A team building leadership style that will be effective in coaching, developing, retaining, and motivating a team. Must have experience managing a team.
- Developed sales management skills to set sales goals from overall plan and targets. Ability to measure and monitor sales plans, targets, pipeline and activities. Ability to coach others on sales techniques to increase effectiveness
- Confident, self-starter, proactive – skilled in taking initiative, assessing requirements, coming up with plans and taking the lead in making plans a reality.
- A high level of energy with a results driven attitude in a growth cycle business environment.
- Adept at problem analysis and problem resolution, at both a strategic and functional level.
- Demonstrates a high degree of adaptability, able to organize effectively and manage multiple priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to build networks and identify key contacts; finds ways to make connections
- Actively participates in business/professional associations to build networks and interact with organizations within the community
- Developed computer literacy sufficient to use Meridian applications and desktop tools (i.e. ACE, Mnet, Ovation, Lending).
- Well-developed problem solving skills sufficient to identify problems, generate solutions and decide on a course of action. Ability to evaluate solutions in terms of business, financial and Member impacts.
- Regular travel throughout the Niagara region, and within the province for business development, Member meetings, business meetings.
- Flexibility to work irregular hours will be required to accommodate Member meetings and networking and community involvement

Education, Work Experience, and Professional Designations/Certifications
- Demonstrated previous experience in a relevant financial services environment including personal account management and in-depth knowledge of all investment and lending products; advanced credit and interviewing techniques; and underwriting skills
- Post-Secondary education in a business or related field. IFIC, CSC, CFP may be a requirement

Salary Range: CAD $90,000 – $99,000 annually
Compensation for this role is based on a combination of skills, experience, and internal equity. Candidates with stronger alignment to the role’s requirements may be placed higher within the range. Your recruiter will share more information about our total rewards package during the hiring process.
