Position Summary:
The Event Sales Manager is responsible for generating revenue by promoting and selling the organization's event and meeting spaces. This role develops and maintains relationships with members, corporate clients, community organizations, government agencies, event planners, and private individuals to secure bookings for conferences, meetings, weddings, fundraisers, celebrations, and other special events.
Working within a private not-for-profit organization, the Event Sales Manager supports the organization's mission by maximizing facility utilization, delivering exceptional client service, and contributing to long-term financial sustainability through strategic business development and successful event sales.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop and execute strategic internal sales plans to increase event bookings, maximize venue utilization, and achieve revenue growth.
- Identify, cultivate, and secure new business opportunities across corporate, government, community, association, social, and private event markets.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with members, clients, event planners, vendors, community partners, and key stakeholders to generate repeat and referral business.
- Conduct venue tours, sales presentations, and client consultations to showcase event spaces and services.
- Prepare customized proposals, quotations, contracts, and pricing packages that align with client needs and organizational objectives.
- Manage the full sales cycle from initial inquiry through contract execution, ensuring a seamless client experience.
- Maintain an active sales pipeline and consistently achieve or exceed annual sales and revenue targets.
- Collaborate with clients to develop event plans, timelines, and service requirements while ensuring exceptional attention to detail.
- Coordinate event logistics with Food & Beverage, Kitchen, Front Desk, Housekeeping, and other operational teams to ensure successful event execution.
- Communicate client expectations effectively to internal departments and monitor event readiness through completion.
- Conduct post-event evaluations, gather client feedback, and implement strategies to enhance guest satisfaction and increase repeat business.
- Maintain current promotional materials, venue information, and pricing packages to support business development initiatives.
- Monitor market trends and emerging opportunities, recommending innovative sales strategies and new revenue streams.
- Develop and manage event budgets, sales forecasts, and revenue reports, monitoring performance against established financial objectives.
- Ensure contracts, deposits, invoicing, and final payments are processed accurately and in accordance with organizational policies.
- Maintain accurate client records, sales activity, and reporting using Jonas software.
- Support business development by developing current promotional materials and participating in networking opportunities.
- Resolve client concerns promptly and professionally, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction throughout the event planning process.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies, health and safety regulations, licensing requirements, and contractual obligations.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned in support of departmental and organizational goals.
Qualifications
- Diploma or bachelor's degree in Business, Hospitality Management, Event Management, Marketing, or a related field.
- Equivalent education and experience may be considered.
- Minimum three years of experience in event sales, hospitality, venue management, or business development.
- Experience working in a not-for-profit, community, or membership-based organization is considered an asset.
- Proven ability to meet or exceed sales targets.
- Strong sales, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Outstanding customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM/event management software; experience with Jonas software is an asset.
- Ability to analyze sales data and prepare reports.
- Self-motivated with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Primarily office-based with regular interaction throughout the facility.
- Evening and weekend work required to support events and client meetings.
- Occasional travel for networking, community events, and trade shows.
- Ability to walk throughout the facility, set up meeting spaces when required, and occasionally lift up to 20 lbs (9 kg).
- Must be qualified to work in Canada legally for the employer.
