REGISTERED PRACTICAL NURSE (RPN) - PART TIME
Nisbet Lodge, located at 740 Pape Avenue East, operates a Christian and charitable 103-bed long-term care home is currently accepting resumes for REGISTERED PRACTICAL NURSE.
Reporting to the Resident Care Managers, the incumbents will be responsible for providing nursing care in accordance with administrative policies, physician’s orders and established standards of nursing practice under the supervision of a Resident Care Manager (RCM). The persons holding the above positions are required to assist with admission and discharge planning.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Assists Resident Care Manager in any emergency situations
- Obtains records T.P.R.’s, B.P.’s and accuchek blood sugars and record in PCC and report abnormal readings to the Doctor.
- Tests urine for sugar and acetone.
- Observes and reports any changes in resident’s physical or emotional status to the Charge Nurse and record in PCC.
- Understands the needs of residents, supports and encourages independence and self-care.
- Administers insulin and intramuscular I.M. injections after being supervised by the Director of Care.
- Administers narcotics after consultation with Charge Nurse according to Doctor’s orders.
- Work in cooperation with Rai MDS Manager to maximize our CMI.
- Complete weekly RAI assessments and RAPS and update plan of care.
- Assists with admissions and discharge planning
- Performs administration of medication using the medication cart.
- Participates in maintaining up-to-date Resident care Plans.
- Work in collaboration with Behavior Support lead to implement strategies for residents with responsive behaviors.
- Maintain good rapport with residents & families.
- Provides direction to the PSW’s on your team.
- Coordinates report with the previous & incoming RCC.
- Promotes health & safety and good infection control practices on your team.
- Performs weekly rounds with the Doctor,
- Obtain INR levels from the Lab and communicate with the Doctor.
- Assists in orienting new personnel and students
- Assist in maintaining adequate standards of cleanliness in service areas, i.e. nursing office, treatment room, utility room
- Participates in investigations
- Performs other duties as required.
- Take part in onsite in service and complete annual Surge learning & AIS program.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Registered Practical Nurse Certificate with a Medication Certificate from a recognized Community College.
- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety Awareness Module 4 and 5
- Minimum two (2) years experience working in geriatric or long-term care setting
- Successful Police Reference Check for Vulnerable Persons
- Ability to relate and empathize with the aging process
- Ability to develop and implement and evaluate restorative programs
- Ability to operate a computer and printer
- Ability to handle difficult sensitive situation in a professional manner
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks
- Ability to adhere to the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Sound knowledge of Point Click Care software system
- Good communication, leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and willingness to work days, evenings, nights and weekends when required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Comfortable working in a home that respects and practices traditional Christian value.
Job Types: Part-time, Permanent
Pay: $30.00-$33.00 per hour
