Established in 1983, MWS Student Camps has welcomed thousands of young people from more than 50 nations to our camps. From the beginning, we have strived to offer and operate innovative, vibrant, and exciting programmes. Our MWS Toronto Camp is centrally located at the University of Toronto allowing us access to so much the city has to offer and providing our students with a full English language immersion experience.
Location: MWS Camps Toronto, University of Toronto
Employment dates: June 29 - August 15, Training prior to beginning of contract, working period is 8:30am to 5:30pm. Salary is $270 CAD per day, 5 days a week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday through Saturday).
The Teaching Director is responsible for the operation of the teaching programme at the MWS Toronto Camps. This includes the safety and supervision of the teaching staff and students during the course of the camp. For this reason the teaching director must have open communication with respect to planning, discipline and any incidents which occur during the course of the teaching programme at the camps. The responsibilities of the Teaching Director include the overall management and operation of the teaching staff and the students while in the classrooms. The Teaching Director communicates with the MWS office at all times and makes decisions as necessary to ensure the successful operation of the teaching programme. This position reports to the Camp Office.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Organization of teacher's office and clean up at the end of the camp season
- Lead camp familiarization session for incoming teachers
- General planning of teaching programme, ensuring the teaching staff adhere to their role's expectations, and follow up to ensure the successful operation of their lessons
- Student testing and assignment of students to classes with assistance of teaching staff
- Organization of student evaluations and certificates
- Staff management of all teaching staff, including evaluation of teaching staff
- Accounting for the teaching programme including the submitting of hours worked for staff payrolls
- Communication with the Camp Directors and MWS office regarding operation of teaching programme and liaison between teaching staff and MWS office
Qualifications & Experience:
- BEd or MEd Graduate
- Experience in a director and/or program role is an asset
- Fluent in English
- Strong communication, leadership, and conflict resolution skills
- Demonstrated knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of diversity and social inclusivity
- Emerging curriculum experience an asset
- Knowledge of other languages is an asset but not required
