Clinical Genetics Research at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health is currently seeking a four (4) month, contract Research Assistant 2 to assist in the ongoing studies in the field of clinical genetics. The aim of Clinical Genetics Research is to determine the genetic and non-genetic causes of complex disease including major psychiatric illnesses, especially schizophrenia. Successful applicants will be responsible for assisting the director and other investigators in clinical genetic research studies. Duties will relate to many aspects of research, such as database maintenance (in MS Access, including collecting, updating, entering, checking and analyzing data, using MS Access and SAS, coding and organizing research data, as well as assisting in preparing grant applications and presentation. You will support a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable and regulatory requirements. This position is currently located at 33 Russell Street.
You will have a minimum of three years of Community College with one (1) year of relevant experience. Having an undergraduate degree in statistics, biostatistics, systems engineering, psychology, neuropsychiatry, genetics, epidemiology, or related health studies would be considered an asset. You will have proficient computer skills (Access, WordPerfect, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) and ability to perform statistical analyses is essential. You will have some knowledge of SQL language and Progeny or Cyrillic is preferred. MEDLINE research and website development experience would be assets. Preference will be given to applicants with previous research experience with 22q deletion syndrome, especially with hands on experience with MS Access, pedigree-drawing program Progency and familiarity with medical terminology and a background in education. Successful applicants will have excellent communication, organizational and analytical skills, clinical/research experience, be highly accurate in their work, able to pay high attention to detail, and able to work well in a fast-paced environment independently as well as part of a team. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.
This full-time contract position lasting four (4) months is part of the OPSEU bargaining unit.
$22.47 to $27.71 per hour
