Light Olives Childcare Center – Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE)
Position Responsibilities (Public Health & CCEYA Aligned)
Light Olives Childcare Center is a newly established, licensed childcare center in Port Colborne, Ontario, preparing to open in Summer 2026. We are committed to providing a nurturing, engaging, and inclusive environment where children feel safe to explore, learn, and grow.

The Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) is responsible for the care, supervision, health, safety, and well-being of children in accordance with the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014 (CCEYA), Niagara Region Public Health requirements, and all centre policies and procedures.
Child Supervision & Program Implementation
- Supervise children at all times in accordance with CCEYA ratios and supervision requirements
- Implement the approved Program Statement and How Does Learning Happen? in daily practice
- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate learning experiences that support children’s physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development
- Maintain inclusive, responsive learning environments that support children of diverse abilities, cultures, and backgrounds
Health, Safety & Infection Prevention
- Follow all Niagara Region Public Health guidelines related to infection prevention and control
- Ensure proper hand hygiene, respiratory etiquette, and cleaning practices are followed by children and staff
- Monitor children for signs of illness or injury and follow exclusion and reporting procedures as required
- Administer medication only in accordance with written authorization, centre policy, and CCEYA requirements
- Follow all emergency management, fire safety, safe sleep, and serious occurrence procedures
Nutrition & Mealtime Support
- Support safe meal and snack routines in accordance with Public Health guidance
- Ensure allergy and dietary restrictions are strictly followed
- Supervise children during meals and snacks to reduce choking risks and promote safe eating practices
- Support positive eating environments without pressure or force
Environment, Cleaning & Sanitizing
- Maintain clean, organized, and sanitary program rooms at all times
- Follow centre cleaning and sanitizing schedules, including toys, equipment, washrooms, and high-touch surfaces
- Ensure diapering, toileting, and washroom procedures follow Public Health and CCEYA requirements
Observation, Documentation & Communication
- Observe, document, and reflect on children’s learning and development
- Maintain accurate and confidential records as required
- Communicate effectively and professionally with families regarding children’s well-being and development
- Report any concerns related to child health, safety, or well-being immediately to the Supervisor
Professional Conduct & Collaboration
- Model respectful, professional, and positive interactions with children, families, and colleagues
- Work collaboratively with RECEs, non-RECE staff, students, and volunteers
- Participate in ongoing professional learning, training, and reflective practice
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all centre policies
Skills & Core Competencies
- Strong understanding of child development and early learning pedagogy
- Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to children’s individual needs
- Demonstrated emotional maturity, patience, and cultural sensitivity
- Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills
- Physical and mental health sufficient to meet the demands of the role
Qualifications Required
- Registered and in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE)
- Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (current)
- Standard First Aid and CPR Level C
- Food Handler Certification
- Up-to-date immunizations, as required by Public Health
- Two-step TB test or current medical clearance
- Knowledge of Niagara Region Public Health requirements
- Experience working in a licensed child care setting (preferred)

Pay: $24.86-$25.86 per hour
