Overview
James Bay Veterinary Clinic is a well-established small animal practice in Victoria, BC. We are seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our dedicated team. This is a hands-on role supporting both surgery and patient care, ideal for someone who thrives in a busy clinical environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist with patient intake, histories, and accurate medical record keeping
- Support veterinarians and RVTs during exams, treatments, and procedures
- Perform in-house lab work (fecals, urinalysis, bloodwork) under supervision
- Prepare exam rooms, treatment areas, and assist with surgical/dental setup
- Wrap and sterilize instruments using proper autoclave protocols
- Fill prescriptions and prepare medications accurately
- Communicate clearly with clients regarding care, medications, and follow-ups
- Prepare estimates, process payments, and finalize invoices
- Maintain cleanliness and restock exam and treatment areas
Requirements
- 2+ years of Veterinary Assistant experience
- Strong hands-on skills with patient care, restraint, and lab work
- Comfortable in a busy, fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Positive, professional attitude
- Availability for 4 shifts per week (10-hour days), including evenings and Saturdays
