Employment Details
- Position Type: Temporary Full-Time Contract
- Reports To: Community Connections Coordinator
- Hours: 35 hours per week
- Wage: $24.00-$27.00 per hour
- Contract Term: Until March 31, 2027, with the possibility of extension based on funding availability and organizational needs.
- Schedule: Primarily Monday to Friday; however, occasional evening and weekend work may be required to support school/community events, workshops, outreach activities, and partnership initiatives.
About the Position
Vernon Immigrant Services (VIS) is seeking a passionate and community-minded Volunteer Engagement & Community Liaison to help create meaningful connections between volunteers, newcomers, and the broader community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Recruit, screen, and onboard volunteers through various outreach channels.
- Plan and facilitate volunteer orientation and training sessions.
- Maintain volunteer schedules and ensure adequate program coverage.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and welcoming volunteer environment.
- Provide ongoing support, guidance, and resources to volunteers.
- Coordinate volunteer recognition and appreciation activities.
- Maintain accurate volunteer records using Excel and other tracking systems.
- Generate reports on volunteer engagement and program activities.
- Match newcomers with suitable volunteers based on compatibility, language, and skills.
- Welcome newcomers and connect them with local services, resources, and community opportunities.
- Organize workshops, community events, and activities that promote inclusion and belonging.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners, organizations, and local agencies.
- Facilitate effective communication between volunteers, newcomers, and community stakeholders.
Qualifications:
We are looking for someone who has:
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- A community-focused and collaborative approach.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills.
- High proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel.
- Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to engage diverse groups.
- A demonstrated commitment to anti-racism, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Knowledge of local community resources and services, or the ability to quickly learn them.
- Fluency in a language other than English is considered a strong asset.
- Previous experience in volunteer coordination or community outreach is an asset.
- Experience working with newcomer, immigrant, or refugee populations is an asset.
- A Diploma or Degree in Social Work, Human Services, Community Development, Education, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A valid BC Driver's Licence and access to reliable transportation are preferred.
The successful candidate will be required to complete a technology proficiency assessment as part of the pre-employment process.
