Fabrication Department Operator

Key Responsibilities
- Assist with daily fabrication activities to help keep production flowing efficiently and meet department priorities.
- Operate equipment and tools safely and efficiently, following training and established procedures.
- Set up and operate the automated cutting table in accordance with work orders, drawings, patterns, and production schedules.
- Load materials onto the cutting table and ensure proper alignment, placement, and secure handling before starting the cutting process.
- Input, select, or verify cutting programs, measurements, and machine settings to ensure accurate cutting performance.
- Monitor machine operation during production and make routine adjustments as needed to maintain quality and efficiency.
- Inspect cut parts for accuracy, quality, and conformance to specifications using measuring tools, templates, or visual checks.
- Perform routine cleaning, basic maintenance, and daily equipment checks to keep the machine in safe working condition.
- Complete accurate production records, scrap reports, and other required documentation.
- Prepare, stage, move, and handle materials, parts, and finished products.
- Follow work orders, instructions, and drawings as required.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Identify and promptly report equipment issues, material defects or shortages, quality concerns, and safety hazards.
- Work closely with team members and other departments to help meet production goals and timelines.
- Contribute to effective organization of the fabrication department inventory of raw materials.
- Keep electronic drawings, cut files and other files named appropriately and well managed.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support fabrication operations.
Qualifications
- Experience in a manufacturing, production, or fabrication environment is an asset.
- Mechanical aptitude and comfort using hand tools, and production equipment.
- Well versed in the use of measuring tools and strong knowledge of both the imperial and metric systems.
- Previous experience operating automated cutting equipment, CNC equipment, or similar manufacturing machinery is an asset.
- Ability to read and interpret work orders, drawings, measurements, and specifications.
- Basic computer skills and comfort working with machine control software or digital production systems. (basic drafting and editing tasks)
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Reliable attendance, strong work ethic, and a safety-first mindset.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including standing for extended periods and lifting materials within safe limits.
- Ability to read basic production documents, drawings, or work instructions is an asset.
- Knowledge of drawing programs such as AutoCAD or Pattern Pro is an asset.
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
This role typically requires standing for extended periods, frequent walking, bending, reaching, and lifting materials within established safe handling guidelines. The work is performed in a manufacturing environment where exposure to moving equipment and noise may occur. Appropriate personal protective equipment must be worn as required.
