Headquartered in Toronto, the Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB) is responsible for investing in new infrastructure projects. An exciting and challenging opportunity is open for a quantitative risk and financial professional. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Portfolio Construction and Risk, the Associate, Portfolio Construction and Risk, will support the development and application of portfolio-level analytics that inform the CIB's strategic decision-making, capital deployment and risk appetite. This includes contributing to quantitative modelling, scenario analysis and portfolio monitoring.
The role suits a candidate with strong analytical foundations and experience in portfolio construction, risk aggregation and data-driven storytelling.
Your responsibilities include:
- Support the development, maintenance and enhancement of portfolio‑level models used to forecast exposures, capital deployment and risk sensitivities across the CIB investment portfolio to manage long-run liquidity and sustainability of the portfolio
- Produce scenario and sensitivity analyses to assess how macroeconomic, market, climate, technological or policy-driven changes may affect portfolio performance and risk metrics
- Perform measurement, analysis and reporting with respect to the impact and financial performance of investments on a portfolio-level basis, including as compared to the CIB's risk parameters and appetite
- Assist with the design and implementation of quantitative models to measure and assess financial risk, including analysis and modelling of exposures and segments to identify and assess risk—including methodologies for assessing unexpected loss within the investment portfolio
- Apply simulation-based techniques (including Monte Carlo analysis) to support portfolio cashflow projections and portfolio risk, as well as assist in aggregating portfolio data across sectors, instruments and programs to support portfolio construction analysis, monitoring and reporting
- Prepare recurring and ad hoc portfolio dashboards and reports, briefing materials, as well as analytical exhibits for internal stakeholders, ensuring accuracy, clarity and consistency
- Support the preparation of materials for senior management forums (e.g., portfolio reviews, strategy discussions), including translating quantitative outputs into clear narratives
- Work closely with the Investments, Risk, Finance, Asset Management, Legal and Impact teams with respect to the investment portfolio
- Maintains good knowledge of industry dynamics and stays informed on portfolio-relevant market, macroeconomic and infrastructure-sector trends, in relation to the CIB's infrastructure mandate and its priority sectors
- Other portfolio and risk-related duties as required
The ideal profile:
- Degree in finance, economics, mathematics, statistics, engineering or a related quantitative discipline
- Progress towards CFA/FRM designation, highly desirable
- Three to five years of experience in a quantitative, analytical or strategy-oriented role within financial services, consulting, infrastructure or a related field
- Strong analytical skills with experience building, maintaining, or enhancing financial or statistical models, with demonstrated proficiency in Python for data analysis, modelling and automation (experience with Excel and/or R, an asset)
- Solid understanding of core financial concepts and experience or strong interest in portfolio construction, diversification and risk aggregation
- Ability to communicate analytical findings clearly in written materials and presentations for non-technical audiences
- Organizational skills with proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
- Flexible and willing to perform other duties as required
- Bilingual French/English, an asset
