The Lab Technician is responsible for supporting the optical services of the clinic by preparing, inspecting, repairing, and maintaining eyeglasses and related optical products. This role ensures that eyewear meets quality standards, assists with frame adjustments and minor repairs, and provides excellent customer service while working closely with optometrists, opticians, and administrative staff.
Please note- Experience is an asset, but not mandatory- we will train the right person!!
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble, edge, fit, and inspect prescription lenses and eyewear.
- Verify that completed eyewear matches prescription specifications and quality standards.
- Perform frame adjustments, alignments, tightening, and minor repairs.
- Troubleshoot issues with lenses and frames and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and perform routine cleaning and maintenance.
- Order, receive, and organize laboratory supplies, lenses, and optical materials.
- Manage inventory
- Assist patients with basic eyewear care instructions and minor adjustments.
- Collaborate with optometrists and optical staff to ensure timely completion of patient orders.
- Keep the laboratory clean and organized
Qualifications
- Previous experience in an optical laboratory or optical dispensing environment is an asset.
- Knowledge of lens types, frame materials, and optical equipment is an asset.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic computer skills for order entry and inventory management.
