As demand for workforce development and community-based training programs continues to grow, we are expanding our Mobile Training Division and looking for experienced trainers who are passionate about mentorship, safety, professionalism, and helping others succeed.
We are currently seeking an instructor for an immediate project in Williams Lake, BC, beginning as soon as July 27, 2026, with future opportunities available throughout British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, and beyond.
POSITION SCOPE
This role is vital in ensuring the successful delivery of IHE's mobile and community-based training programs. Mobile Trainers are responsible for providing high-quality instruction, mentorship, student evaluation, and safety leadership while representing IHE professionally in a variety of community, employer, and remote site environments.
Successful candidates must be comfortable travelling extensively and working in remote, northern, and community-based locations throughout Canada.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Deliver classroom, practical, and field-based heavy equipment operator training
- Provide calm, clear, and inclusive mentorship to students of varying experience levels
- Ensure students receive consistent, high-quality instruction aligned with IHE standards
- Conduct student evaluations, practical assessments, and required documentation
- Prepare students for employment within the heavy equipment industry
- Lead and promote a strong culture of safety in all training environments
- Ensure all safety, environmental, and operational standards are followed and enforced
- Build positive relationships with students, community partners, Indigenous stakeholders, funders, and employers
- Represent IHE with professionalism, confidence, and respect at all times
- Support successful project delivery in community, industrial, and remote work environments
- Travel frequently throughout British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, and other project locations as required
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum 10 years of diverse Heavy Equipment Operating experience
- Experience operating a minimum of five of the following: Excavator, Dozer, Grader, Loader, Articulated Rock Truck, Rubber Tire Backhoe
- Experience across multiple industry sectors such as: Civil Construction, Mining, Forestry, Environmental Services, Oil & Gas, Demolition, Industrial Construction
- Demonstrated leadership experience involving coaching, mentoring, or training others
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Valid driver's licence
- Current safety certifications
- Ability to work independently and remotely
- Willingness to travel extensively and stay away from home when required
Assets
- Previous heavy equipment training or instructional experience
- Experience working with Indigenous communities
- Previous northern or remote worksite experience
- Class 1 licence
- Air Brake endorsement
- Strong mechanical knowledge and troubleshooting ability

COMPENSATION & PROJECT SUPPORT
- Competitive contractor rates ranging from $40–$50/hour
- Field and classroom day rates available depending on assignment

SCHEDULE & TRAVEL EXPECTATIONS
- Monday to Friday
- Travel required
- Overtime as required based on project needs
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required
This position requires flexibility in scheduling and travel. Work hours may vary depending on project location, client requirements, travel days, weather conditions, and training schedules. Overtime may be required during active project assignments.
