JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Rental Sales Associate is responsible for providing prompt, courteous and efficient service to customers. Duties include advising customers on appropriate rental equipment and accessories, processing contracts and transactions (cash, credit card, debit card) using retail and rental software, cleaning and inspecting rental equipment to ensure operational standards, general housekeeping of the rental area, loss prevention, restocking, and staying current with industry trends. The Rental Sales Associate performs all assigned tasks with sufficient speed and accuracy to support store efficiency and a high level of customer service.
DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure customers are greeted within 30 seconds of entering the store or your department.
- Ask open-ended questions about customers’ projects to determine their needs and level of expertise.
- Communicate product knowledge to the customer as appropriate.
- Assist customers with finding all items needed to complete their project.
- Assist customers with carrying out large or heavy items.
- Ensure rental equipment is properly displayed and maintained.
- Pick, organize and verify orders for delivery and pick-up.
- Clean, inspect, and prepare tools for rental.
- Always take appropriate safety precautions when demonstrating or testing equipment.
- Process tool rental transactions (coordinate deliveries and collections, log repairs and work orders, create contracts, take deposits, turn contracts into invoices upon equipment return, etc.).
- Process special orders for non-stock specialty tools and accessories.
- Record missed rentals.
- Check returned equipment against the contract for missed accessories or customer damage.
- Advise the designated manager of missed rentals, damaged equipment, and low stock accessories.
- Follow procedures and maintain standards according to store policy in the following areas: loss prevention, receiving and pricing goods, merchandise handling and presentation, housekeeping, reordering merchandise, restocking shelves, and handling cash.
- Help unload incoming trucks.
- Keep stock in the rental area neat, clean, and orderly.
- Participate in regular cycle counting and assist in annual inventory counts.
- Attend store meetings, training sessions, etc. as required.
- Work on special projects as assigned by the Department Manager.
- Work on additional duties and assignments as assigned by management.
- Work in a safe manner in accordance with provincial and federal safety legislation. Report any potential hazards and unsafe behavior to management to have the situation corrected.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School graduation or equivalent.
- Retail experience is an asset.
- Trade experience is an asset.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Friendly and helpful attitude toward customers.
- Excellent communication skills, including legible handwriting.
- Good mathematical skills.
- Knowledge of tools, including proper usage and basic maintenance.
- Mechanical or ability to perform small repairs on equipment an asset.
- Ability to work co-operatively in a team atmosphere.
- Ability to multitask.
- Willingness to learn.
- Willingness to continually develop professional skills and knowledge base.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Some heavy lifting required.
- Bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods of time.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
- Reports directly to the Store Manager.
Pay: $20.00-$25.00 per hour
