We are accepting applications for a full-time Ignition Officer – Mobile Burn Unit Fire Control position. The Ignition Officer is responsible for the safe ignition, control, adjustment, and shutdown of fire conditions within the mobile burn unit in accordance with the approved training plan. We are looking for individuals who are able to operate in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment, will effectively integrate into a team, and are respectful and professional with co-workers, management, and clients.
Major duties
- Conducts ignition of fuel packages or gas‑fired props as directed by the Instructor‑in‑Charge
- Controls fire growth, heat levels, and duration to meet training objectives
- Operates fuel controls, valves, and emergency shutoff systems
- Monitors fire behavior and interior conditions during the evolution
- Coordinates closely with the Safety Officer and Instructor‑in‑Charge
- Immediately shuts down fire conditions if unsafe thresholds are reached or upon command
Qualifications & Experience
- Trained and qualified in live‑fire ignition operations, NFPA 1403
- Trained in NFPA 1041 Fire Service Instructor I
- Thorough understanding of the specific mobile burn unit’s fuel systems and controls
- Knowledge of fire behavior and thermal conditions in training environments
Reporting Relationship
- Operates under the direction of the Instructor‑in‑Charge
- Maintains continuous communication with the Safety Officer
