Our client is looking for a Senior Estimator to join its ICI preconstruction team. In this role, you will deliver cost certainty, transparency, and value for a sophisticated client base across both public and private sectors, including commercial developers, school boards, and municipalities.
This position is ideal for an experienced estimator who thrives in collaborative environments and wants to work on large, complex, and high-impact Institutional, Commercial, and Industrial (ICI) projects within an award-winning, people-first culture.
Key Responsibilities:
*
Strategy & Planning: Develop and execute competitive bid and pursuit strategies that support successful project acquisition.
*
Cost Estimation: Prepare and manage comprehensive cost estimates across all project phases, from early feasibility and conceptual stages through to tender and guaranteed maximum pricing.
*
Workshops & Alignment: Lead collaborative estimating and cost-planning workshops to align client budgets with project goals, enabling transparent decision-making.
*
Take-offs & Modeling: Complete detailed material, labor, equipment, and subcontractor take-offs. Establish and maintain unit rates, labor productivity metrics, escalation models, and contingency strategies.
*
Procurement & Value Engineering: Solicit, analyze, and negotiate subcontractor and supplier pricing; lead strategic value engineering and cost-optimization exercises.
*
Operational Partnership: Partner with operations and project teams during preconstruction to provide critical constructability, sequencing, and site logistics input.
*
Variance Analysis: Track estimated versus actual costs, analyze variances, and capture lessons learned to drive continuous improvement.
*
Network Building: Build and sustain strong, trust-based relationships with subcontractors, engineering consultants, suppliers, and clients.
Qualifications & Experience:
*
Experience: 15+ years of experience in commercial / ICI construction estimating, with a minimum of 5 years estimating directly for a general contractor (rather than a self-performing developer environment).
*
Sector Exposure: Proven track record estimating across diverse ICI sectors, including commercial, institutional, healthcare, or recreational facilities.
*
Education: Post-secondary diploma or degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
*
Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Excel alongside industry-standard estimating, take-off, and cost-management software. Strong ability to interpret complex architectural drawings and technical specifications.
*
Presentation Skills: Proven experience presenting and defending complex cost models to diverse stakeholder groups and clients.
Core Competencies:
*
Strong cost modeling, pricing strategy, and proactive risk analysis skills.
*
Excellent communication skills with the confidence to influence and guide crucial cost-related decisions.
*
Exceptional organizational skills to effectively manage multiple concurrent project pursuits in a fast-paced environment.
*
Deep understanding of current market conditions, supply chains, labor trends, and sector-specific construction risks.
Why This Opportunity Stands Out:
*
People-First Culture: Join an organization built on collaboration, trust, psychological well-being, and sustainable building practices.
*
Early-Stage Impact: Get involved at the inception of project definition where your expertise directly shapes the project's financial success.
*
Career Advancement: Access clear pathways for long-term career progression, ongoing professional development, and mentorship alongside top-tier industry professionals.
