Title: Life Enrichment Coordinator
Organizational Background: Parkwood Seniors Community is a not-for-profit, charitable, faith-based Continuum of Care located in Waterloo (corner of University Ave and New Hampshire St) supported by 23 Mennonite and Brethren in Christ Congregations. It is one of two campuses of Fairview Parkwood Communities.
The vibrant Parkwood campus offers more than a housing solution. It has been purposefully designed and expanded to create a sense of community for older adults where all are welcome. This role will oversee recreation programming across the campus including; Retirement Suites, Independent Living and Health & Wellness Centre.
Position Summary: Parkwood Seniors Community is seeking a dynamic and passionate Life Enrichment Coordinator to facilitate the development and implementation of engaging, person-centered recreational and therapeutic programs for our retirement home, independent building and health and wellness centre. This role promotes a positive quality of life for residents, tenants and community members by fostering a stimulating, inclusive, and supportive environment that promotes social, emotional, cognitive, spiritual and physical well-being.
They will collaborate with residents, families, and interdisciplinary team members to create meaningful experiences that enhance daily living.
Reports to: Director of Programs
Position Specific Responsibilities:
Include, but not limited to, the following:
Adhere to all written policies and procedures of the Home
Perform all tasks with an acceptable standard of skill and sense of responsibility
Work safely, following the Safety Guidelines, as posted
Follow WHMIS 2015, fire safety, and emergency plan procedures
Attend meetings, training and in-services
Follow infection prevention and control procedures, as per best practice guidelines
Keep work area clean and tidy
Report any immediate or potential hazards to the department director, or designate
Plan, facilitate and evaluate recreational individual, small group and large group programs and events
Develop monthly program calendar for designated area
Responsible for providing oversight of safety of residents and volunteers during off-site outings
Maintain program attendance records and other documentation (assessments, RAI-MDS, care plans, care conferences, etc.)
Ensure adequate supplies are stocked and available
Ensure physical and social environments are suitable for residents
Contribute to an environment of continuous improvement by providing feedback/suggestions and engaging in implementation
Participate in resident care conferences, as required
Skills and Qualifications:
Post-secondary diploma, degree or certificate in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, gerontology or other related field from an Ontario post-secondary institution or other jurisdiction that is equivalent
Experience working with seniors with complex, age-related diseases and/or mental health concerns
Aqua Ability Certification
Bronze Cross Certification
First Aid/CPR/AED training
Seniors Fitness Instructor
Safe Food Handling
Patient Safety Roles and Responsibilities
All staff are responsible for identifying incidents and for taking immediate action to ensure the safety of residents, visitors and other staff. Open disclosure must occur when a resident safety incident happens, regardless of whether it is unplanned, unintended or a circumstance that could have resulted or did result in unnecessary harm to a resident. Data and feedback from staff, residents, families and partners can identify system vulnerabilities to inform quality improvement efforts.
Shift Information: This position includes day, evening and/or weekend work as well as statutory holidays.
