About the Position
The Youth Coordinator will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering
programming for children and youth (ages 0–18). Programming will emphasize:
- Outdoor and land-based play
- Mi’kmaw cultural teachings and activities
- Youth leadership and engagement
- Community wellness and inclusion
- Family and intergenerational participation
The position will also support community partnerships with schools, Indigenous organizations,
Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and local service providers.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement regular youth programming
- Facilitate outdoor recreation and land-based learning opportunities
- Organize culturally relevant activities rooted in Mi’kmaw knowledge
- Engage youth, families, caregivers, and Elders in programming
- Identify and reduce barriers to participation, including transportation and accessibility
- Coordinate schedules, supplies, and community partnerships
- Monitor participation and evaluate program outcomes
- Prepare reports and maintain program documentation
Qualifications
Preferred qualifications include:
- Experience working with children and youth
- Background in recreation, education, community development, social work, or related
fields
- Knowledge of Indigenous culture and community-based programming
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Experience facilitating outdoor or land-based activities is considered an asset
- Understanding of trauma-informed and inclusive approaches to programming
