About the Opportunity
The Canmore Museum is seeking engaged and community-minded individuals to join our Board of Directors and help guide the Museum through an exciting new phase under our 2026–2029 Strategic Plan.
Serving on the Board is an opportunity to contribute your experience, perspective, and leadership to an organization dedicated to celebrating and sharing the community, culture, heritage, and stories of Canmore and the Bow Valley.
We are seeking candidates interested in serving as Board Directors, with particular interest in individuals who may be able to contribute in the following areas:
- Board Chair / governance leadership
- Treasurer / financial oversight
- Human Resources
- Fundraising and community engagement
- Non-profit governance
- Strategic planning
Previous board experience is an asset but is not required. We welcome applicants who are passionate about the Museum's mission and interested in contributing their skills to its long-term success.
Responsibilities
As a member of the Canmore Museum Board of Directors, you will:
- Provide governance and strategic oversight for the organization.
- Help advance the priorities of the Museum's 2026–2029 Strategic Plan.
- Attend and actively participate in monthly Board meetings.
- Participate on a Board committee.
- Support responsible financial oversight and organizational sustainability.
- Act as an ambassador for the Canmore Museum within the community.
- Support fundraising initiatives, community events, and Museum activities where possible.
- Contribute your knowledge, professional experience, and perspective to Board discussions and decision-making.
- Work collaboratively with fellow Board members and Museum leadership.
Time Commitment
Board members are asked to commit to a two-year term.
Regular Board meetings are generally held on the third Thursday of each month from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Additional time is required for committee participation, preparation for meetings, and occasional fundraising, community, or Museum events.
Who We're Looking For
We are interested in hearing from individuals who:
- Have an interest in Canmore's history, heritage, culture, or community.
- Are interested in contributing to the governance and future direction of a local non-profit organization.
- Can work collaboratively and respectfully with fellow Board members and Museum leadership.
- Are able to commit the necessary time to Board and committee responsibilities.
- Bring professional, community, governance, financial, HR, fundraising, or other relevant experience.
We particularly encourage individuals with financial/accounting, human resources, governance, or leadership experience to apply.
