This position is primarily responsible for providing support to the Doctors and Technicians of the ICU and the Emergency and Critical Care Service. The Emergency Service is fast-paced, detail orientated and deals with critical situations. An ideal Emergency PCA candidate will have a calm and level-headed demeanor and have strong problem-solving skills in stressful situations.
Canada West Veterinary Specialists (CWVS), a privately owned and operated, multi-disciplinary emergency and specialty hospital is looking for exceptional Patient Care Assistants to join our Emergency department.
The first veterinary specialty hospital in Metro Vancouver, CWVS is a state-of-the-art Level VECCS level 1 and VetCOT certified facility. We have 30+ veterinarians in the following disciplines: emergency and critical care, surgery, neurology, radiology, internal medicine, and oncology. In addition to a rehabilitation department, 6 ORs, 2 isolation wards, and a newly redesigned ER, ICU, and Wards, we are equipped with 2 digital radiology suites, a new CT, and a 1.5T MRI.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists with the admission and discharge of patients, creating consent forms and estimates, taking deposits/final payments
- Documents and maintains proper medical record keeping
- Triage Emergency Line phone calls and answer telephone inquiries
- Assists doctors and technicians with patient triage on presentation, examinations, diagnostics, treatments, and procedures
- Ensures all client documentation is complete and updated (Forms and Logs)
- Updates and tracks submitted lab samples and advises the doctor when results are received
- Keeps emergency area clean, stocked and prepared for emergencies (following shift checklist)
- Ensures all equipment in the Emergency area is properly maintained
- Handling euthanasia related tasks (consent, billing, aftercare, post-euthanasia paperwork)
- Greet and offer assistance to clients
- Communicates with clients as directed by the ERCC Doctor or Technician and documents all communication in patient files
- Willing to go above and beyond to exceed clients’ expectations
- Assisting in the ICU with patient care and animal husbandry
- Other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Veterinary Office Assistant Certification preferred, or equivalent animal emergency experience
- Ability to recognize and establish priorities and to respond efficiently and effectively under stress
- Customer service experience an asset
- Excellent communication skills, computer and phone skills
- High level of professionalism
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
HOURS OF WORK
- 4, 10-hour shifts per week;
- 21:30 – 08:00, between Sunday - Saturday
