Position Overview
Total Traffic Control (TTC) is seeking an experienced and safety-focused Flagging Supervisor to lead traffic control operations on telecommunications, utility, and civil construction projects throughout British Columbia. The successful candidate will oversee traffic control crews, ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC and Ministry of Transportation regulations, and maintain safe and efficient work zones for workers and the public.
This role requires strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, along with hands-on experience in traffic management and roadway safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate daily activities of flaggers and traffic control personnel
- Implement and maintain approved Traffic Control Plans (TCPs)
- Conduct site hazard assessments and ensure safe work practices are followed
- Ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC, MoTI, and company safety requirements
- Perform daily inspections of signage, cones, barriers, and traffic control devices
- Communicate with project managers, clients, subcontractors, and field crews
- Provide mentorship, training, and performance oversight for flagging staff
- Maintain accurate documentation including tailboards, inspections, incident reports, and timesheets
- Coordinate lane closures, detours, and public safety measures
- Respond to changing traffic conditions and emergency situations as required
Qualifications
- Valid BC Traffic Control Person (TCP) Certification
- Previous experience supervising traffic control or flagging crews
- Strong understanding of WorkSafeBC and BC MoTI traffic control standards
- Excellent leadership and communication skills
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Class 5 Driver’s License with clean driver’s abstract preferred
- Occupational First Aid Level 1 (or higher) considered an asset
- Ability to travel to project sites as required
Preferred Skills
- Experience in utility, telecommunications, or civil construction environments
- Strong problem-solving and organizational abilities
- Ability to read and interpret Traffic Control Plans
- Experience conducting safety meetings and field inspections
